Am I an ammo chump?

Several months back(9 or so) you could buy a box of 9mm 115g ball blazer(aluminum case) 50 count for $5.99 + shipping from Natchez shooting supply.

The word came out that ammo is going up. I did nothing. Then the same ammo went to $6.89/box + shipping.

This last time Natchez sent many emails that prices are going up 5%-25% September 1. I bought a case about a month ago in anticipation of this price hike. I look today and the Blazer 9mm is STILL $6.89/box. What gives?

When they go to buy new stock the ammo will go up. FWIW my Dealer price on Blazer brass after the Feb price increase is almost 11.00 per box for 9mm. That does not count this new increase. Some times it takes a while for the prices to adjust with the big guys like Natchez.

I know the feeling, CSTripp.

The last time I bought any Blazer 9mm, it was $3.86 a box at Academy. Not knowing the price was going to go up the next week, I only bought 3,000 rnds. By the time I got home (we live about 60 miles away from the B/CS Academy), I decided that at that price, I should have bought at least another 10,000 rnds but before I could get back there, it had gone to $4.99 a box and has been going up ever since.

This latest increase (Sept. 1) was announced back in June/July by ATK (parent company of Federal/CCI/and a few others) and they said they expected the rest of the industry to follow suit. All things being equal, it's going to happen since you wouldn't expect the people who make the product to increase their price and the distributors to take a loss. These increases will "most likely" be affecting the reloading components also, so those of us that have gotten into reloading will also be paying more (unless you stocked up a little ahead of time).

My wife now has here CHL also and shoots 9mm while I am now shooting .45 ACP, so trips to the range are getting pretty expensive.

To answer your question-No, I don't think you are a chump. Prices will be going up. But then again, maybe we're all chumps for continueing to pay these prices to feed our "addiction" (as if we had a choice).

I got into shooting two years ago. At the time a box of 9mm wwb was around $11 and 40 s&w was about $15. I could afford to shoot then. Now with 9mm being $16 and 40 being $22. I can not afford to shoot. I add in Range fees $12 plus I have to buy their targets at .50 cents or so a target the range trips are extremely limited to me now. My uncle who has been shooting for 40 years just laughs at the prices. He reloads and bought a ton of supplies ten years ago that he continues to use, minus the gun powder of course. He normally lets me shoot all I want when we would go to the range together a few times a year as long as I would pick up the brass and toss them in the tumbler when we got home. Now I live 1,200 miles from him and I have to pay for everything which sucks.

I miss the cheap Blazer at Academy. I shot up my last three boxes this morning.

I'm kicking myself for only buying two cases of 9mm when it was around $110/1000.

I think if we all knew how much ammo was going to go up, all of us would've went out of our way to stock up.

I stocked up but now I'm afraid to SHOOT it.
I went to do some practice with my AR15, found myself counting the rounds.

Yeah, I dread shooting my AR15 now that ammo's up around 40 cents a shot.

I am making it my weekly thing to buy two boxes a week when my wife drags me to Walmart to go grocery shopping.

instead of buying all this ammo you should invest in reloading equipment. It will pay for its self in no time at the rate of price increases. It is also cheaper to stock up components than ammo.
