S&W M-19 and the 145 grain silver tip
What are your thoughts on this combo for self-defense.

Silver tips are old technology, I'd go with something newer, rangers, gold dots, HST.

Old, new, blah, blah, the 145gr WWSTHP is a very decent round. It's still controllable & expansion/penetration are good. If it's accurate in your M19, carry it w/ confidence.

If it shot well I would carry it without reservation. The PA Department of Fish and Game used to carry this load in their S&W 686's before switching to Glock 31's in .357 sig. The only Game officer I ever asked about the round said it was effective on wounded Deer and trusted it to defend his life against humans.
