Magsafe Ammo?
I finished my CCW cert class yesterday. The instructor was offering the Magsafe ammo for dealer cost so I grabbed a package for my XD45 Service and XD9SC.
As costly as they are I haven't fired them (yet) Anyone have any experience with these rounds and any feedback on them? The instructor had a story about their use here in the Reno area not too long ago where an old man (older that me anyway http://www.magsafeonline.com/

I wouldn't use it, but that's just me. I would greatly prefer a traditional JHP to a fragmenting ultra light bullet.

I wouldn't use them either, even if I could afford it. I like a bullet that has enough Mass behind it to actually do some damage.
I also like to 'test' my carry ammo with at LEAST 75-100 rounds to test it's function in my firearm. If I did that with MagSafe ammo, I'd go broke very quickly. HST, Ranger Talon, CorBon, Hornady TAP, Gold Dot...all of these JHP have proven themselves in real world scenario's. I'm sticking with them.

Magsafe is a pre-fragmented round made to penetrate very little.
Like the other pre-fragmented rounds like Glaser or Extreme Shock It is a specialty round for places were penetration needs to be kept to a minimum. It is not a good general purpose CCW round. Also with it's price so high it's pretty expensive to shoot enough rounds to verify reliability in your semi auto.

Winchester Ranger ammo please. It's 3rd generation black talon ammunition and can be purchased online at ammotogo.com, really good stuff. For self defense I also have glazers and Extreme Shock rounds for my .45. Nasty, nasty stuff.
Winchester markets this only to law enforcement, but there's no federal law against its use by private citizens. As a result, it is a heavily sought after round. ![]() Here are the Extreme Shocks I use for home defense. This remarkable round is the terrorists worst nightmare. Under most circumstances, the AFR (Air Freedom Round) will not penetrate the skin of conventional aircraft, causing a decompression. It is also designed to not penetrate the aluminum backs of most airline seats, reducing potential collateral damage in the event of a shootout at 30,000 feet. Unlike rounds made of polymers that can generate lethal ricochet, the Extreme Shock AFR round will turn to harmless powder if it misses its intended target and hits a hard surface. It is the only round in the world with this level of performance and safety. This is also possibly the world's safest home defense round, as in most circumstances, it will fragment in standard 1 half-inch sheet rock wallboard. This bullet runs at plus-P type pressures, and should be used only in firearms of good construction and good working order. I gotta watch out for my neighbors next door should something ever happen, perfect round for that. Last edited by 40packin; 08-31-2007 at 10:45 AM. |

Send me three rounds, I'll shoot them thru ballistic gel and document the results.

I wouldn't trust ANYTHING from the Extreme Shock crowd.....if there is a crowd. Their product has been debunked by The Box O' Truth that I KNOW some on this board contributed to: http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot23.htm Just the stupid names they give are enough for me to raise an eyebrow! |

IT LOOKS SO COOL!!! seriously though... If it performed much much much better I would rock it out with a quickness... Right now my primary carry round are the +P powRballs in .45ACP. 1450+ fps and copious amounts of energy.... It is a light round (165 grains) but the hole will still be massive... The polymer ball does it job from the ballistics test I have seen.
