why .45 ACP cost as much (if not more) than .223

Since ammo makers complain that cost of material is to blame for ammo price hike, I found this comparison very interesting.

All the place I check (Dick's, Cheaperthandirt, Ammunitionstore, Ammoman, etc) the price for .45 ACP is about the same as .223. One would think .223 should cost more as it requires a lot more material to produce. In addition, .223 is being used in mucho mucho mucho number than .45 ACP in Iraq and around the world as warfighters rely more on rifles than sidearms.

Please educate me on this as I am totally confuse.

here is the "math" I come up with........ .223 does cost more

example
WWB @ CTD about 39 cents each for .223 $7.74 box of 20
WWB @ CTD about 35 cents each for .45acp $17.28 box of 50

more material? I dont know what the prices for lead are right now, but a .45 has significantly more lead in it. Not to mention a copper to cover all that extra surface area.

But that still show that .223 is about the same as .45 ACP and it shouldn't be as it is a much bigger rd.
