That's it! I have taken up the hobby...

I have put together a reload package that will get me started. You can comment if you want, but please think about this...
I have taken time to debate tons of options, so what you say might send me into a spriral again, and my wife might not like me rethinking all of this.

I am going kinda cheap, but small in case it is not for me, but I have added some little perks that might be nice, but not needed. Here is the list.

25.00 scale digital
29.00 9mm dies
24.00 32 mag die
14.00 32 mag crimp die
26.00 calipers
19.00 powder measure and dispenser
70.00 turret press 9.00 extra 4 hole turret to hold the 9mm dies
30.00 tumbler to clean the brass

Well that is is. Let you all know soon how I am doing.

Exactly how I got started reloading. Your choices all look excellent and should get you on your way. No sense in spending a ton of money if you don't know if your going to stay into reloading. Once you become adept at reloading you can then make the decision to go for a dillon press like I eventually done. Stay focused and be safe!

Better quality loads and cheaper than manufactured. Congrats and enjoy!

You can get the lee turret kit for around $74 with the press, beam scale, and powder dispenser.

check wideners.com they have the 3 hole for $74 and the 4 hole for $90. The scale isnt the greatest but it works if you just need to double check your charges every once in awhile.

just wait till you go shopping for components
I've got 1k+ of 45acp brass, 1k of FMJRN, all my equipment already.
Went shopping yesterday for primer and powder. Everyone was OUT of large pistol primers, and didn't have my favorite powder Win231.
Got online today to shop.....about the same deal with primers not many places had them "out of stock". Win, CCI, Remington, ect......

Found Wolf large pistol primers and Win231 @ Wideners
Bought 5k of the primers and 3 one pound jugs of 231, with shipping and HAZMAT comes out to $170 !!!! sheesh....wasn't too long ago I reloaded 45acp for about 5 cents a piece

Now I'm looking at
.05 bullet
.05 brass
.02 primer
.03 powder (rough guess)
___
.15 a piece + time

so roughly still about 1/2 the price compared to "factory"

Mike

anyone worry about the lead hazards of rolling your own. the thought of having so much contact with lead while loading has kept me away from reloading. i don't even use in-door range because of lead.

If you wipe your hands down afterwards, you reduce the exposure.

i was thinking that you have about 1/2 the exposer to lead using ready made.
i mean you have to touch it to load it, then you have to clean you gun.
i haven't thought of it before you said anything. ahh! the hazards. i guess it might be better than smoking. don't they make non static surgical gloves?

after dealing with a tough day today wife in bad mood, 3 year old whining about everything, dog looking like what did i do to deserve this? i was thinking that i might want to save some money, and learn old school. if i could do 50 a day, or even 20 a day to have a couple boxes to shoot on the weekends it would get me out of the house for an hour or two. I am talking about a single stage instead of a turret press. then later on if i stick with it i am sure the single stage would come in handy if i upgraded.

i just wanna get that feeling of my gun, my time, my fun. i don't feel that way now having to ask the kid behind the counter what are the specials? then having him tell me about a magazine article he read, or having the manager say "didn't i see you in hear a couple weeks ago buying 1000 rounds?" blah blah blah..

also i just got a .32 H&R Magnum. I am going to have to start reloading that round because it is about (This is a good price) $315 to $700 per 1000 rounds of .32. I wish I had gotten a .38 , but i really like the round, and my wife liked the stubby .32 better than the .38. what can you do?

so a single stage, new guy room, move my computers and tv and little fridge out in the storage area, and have myself a little get away. i can watch the history channel, and do all of my cleaning, priming, and sizing on one night, the finishing up the next. a turret is nice and time friendly, but i think there is something about learning the basics, not having the best equipment, and still being able to do just as well as the more expensive equipment.
i learned this the hard way in life. i am 32 and i have made the "Latest and Greatest" choice so many times, and it has bit me in the ass every time.

If you wash your hands & don't touch your face before, you'll have little exposure.
