wondering about ammo

What ammo can the XD9 work well with. With other handguns I've heard about many not liking the +P ammo etc. Looking to stock up on some self defense rounds and wanted to get the best bang for my buck.

As for personal defense rounds, I have shot a few 50 round boxes of Winchester Ranger SXTs through my 9, 40 and 45 XDs without issues.

XDs work fine with +P ammo. In fact, the factory even approves the use of +P ammo in them.

I've yet to find ammo that my XD didn't like. That said, I'd probably get a variety of personal defense brands and try a box of each out, just to make sure your pistol will eat it. I use the Speer Gold dots and the Winchester Rangers with no problems to date.

No wonder you had a squib! Just thinking of gun show reloads scares the heck out of me. I'd be real skeptical of that ammo, especially with the problem you encountered. Besides, you can get factory 9mm cheaper, just keep your eyes open for sales. I've been buying UMC 9mm by the case for months @ $150/1000. Glad to hear you weren't injured.

You don't even need a sale.
I've been buying WWB from WallMart for $15.72 per 100. That's $157.20 per 1,000.

Makes me cry Those very same value packs were around 4 bucks cheaper not that long ago. I also have to factor in 8% sales tax (NYS) which brings the total to $169.77
Dick's has had several sales on 9mm @ $6.98/box 50 .....even with tax it comes to $150.76 for 1000 rounds. Actually, there's a sale going on right now....I think I'll head to the store
