Good .223 load wanted... 55gr lead cast GC

Hey everybody...

There was a lot of help out there for my 357 so I thought I'd see if anyone has a good load to suggest for .223 for AR15.

It's a Lyman 225646 GC 55gr cast. Recommended best load from Lyman is IMR4227 @ 12 grains (I think... the book is upstairs).

That powder is kinda wimpy in a 357 Magnum load with little or no fire. It's fine for practice but sometimes I want something wicked, too.

I read someplace 13grains of 296 or H110 will work with this caliber and bullet. Any suggestions? I got some Bluedot, too.

Something, evil, fun and a nice BOOM to it with some fire would be KEWL.

Thanks again in advance....

H110 is a good powder for heavy magnum loads in .357. Also try out some 2300. Its great for mild loads to the heaviest.

It is a bad idea to load lead bullets, gas checked or not, in an AR15. The gas port will fill up with lead and the gun will stop working. Also the lead can cause some problems on the feed ramp.

+1

I don't shoot lead with my AR-15 but my current consistant load is

Hornady 55gr FMJ
25.2gr H335
Winchester small rifle benchrest primer
2.260 OAL

I use similar...and agree on using lead bullets (I don't)

Hornady 55gr FMJ or Midway sells 55 gr FMJ BT under their name (which are quite accurate)
24.1gr H335
Winchester small rifle primer - I don't use bench rest primers for my .223. I just use the WSR, which is cheaper and works fine for me.
2.210 OAL

Just a note for the above...you're at the max OAL with 2.260 (I think). If so, you may want to drop it a little (say, 2.250) to give yourself some margain for variance. Just a suggestion.
