Lee Pro 1000 or LoadMaster
I have decided I want to purchase either a lee pro 1000 or Loadmaster. I was wondering who has experience with these and where is the best place to buy?

The Lee Pro 1000 is a 3 stage progressive that is hard to beat for the money if you intend to load only pistol ammo. (or buy a single stage as I did for the limited number of rifle rounds I load)
The Loadmaster is more robust, 5 stage progressive (allows use of the Lee factory crimp die- very nice addition) that allows one the clearance to load rifle ammo as well. The Lees are harder to set up and get running than some other brands, but once you do they turn out the same ammo as everyone else. I have been using 2 Lee Pro 1000's and reloaded many thousands of rounds of 9mm, 40, 45, 32, 45colt, 44, 10mm, 380, 38/357, 454casull over the last 9 months or so. If you are mechanically inclined, and can stand the snobbery of other reloaders, the Lee does what it is designed to do in a very cost effective way. Midwayusa has the Pro 1000 for about $130 plus shipping, and the Loadmaster for about $215 plus shipping. Cabela's is about the same. http://midwayusa.com/ http://www.cabelas.com/ Lee offers refurbished and factory second units (what I bought). Refurb is $100 shipped complete and the factory 2nd is about $80 when available. Check here: http://www.leeprecision.com/cgi/cata...g/surplus.html Last edited by philbo; 08-15-2007 at 03:38 PM. |

I have two Pro 1000's. I agree that you have to tinker with them to get them right. It took me several hours to get it right. I have had mine over a year and have made over 30,000 rounds.
Problems I have had: My Pro 1000's use up primers to fast. It seems that I have to reload the primer tray every five minutes or so (100 primers). Same for the tubes that hold the cases. Now for the real issues: The pull back chain for the powder hopper can slip, causing no powder in the cases. Sometimes the primer will not feed. Keeping the primer trough full cures this. Just remember, you will have a learning curve with this (or any other reloader), so take it easy. I also recommend the case collector from Lee, it really helps. |

i will echo the others comments. i have a lee pro 1000 and it did take a fair amount of adjusting to get it to run smooth. now it flows well, and is a great press for the money.

I have a Pro 1000 and a Loadmaster, I like to use the Pro1000 for pistol rounds and the Loadmaster for my rifle rounds. Seems to me the Pro1000 is faster on pistol rounds.

This has to be a record. I've never seen a thread about Lee go this long without one of the blue kool-aid drinkers jumping in. I'm shocked.
Supposedly there is a really good video on Glocktalk about how to set up the Pro 1000. Or maybe it's the Loadmaster.

I couldn't resist. Kidding, Lee's are fine but may require a bit more attention to set up. I'd spring for the Load Master. Bronson |

I have a Lee Pro and have had decent success with it. My only problem has been with primers. Ive made about 8k rounds through it in the past 7-8 months but right now I'm having trouble with it tipping primers. I do the zero adjustment and it works perfectly with no cases in the shell plate but once a case is in there it seems like it shifts forward (slightly) on the downstroke which tips the primer, crushes, or doesn't seat. I had this problem when I first got it but it went away but now I can't figure it out. If any of you guy who have LP1000 have had this problem please PM me so I can have this fixed before Sunday's USPSA match. PLEASE!!!

Keeping them clean is the key. If you start having trouble with primer feedings take the press apart and give it a good cleaning.

ok, I have a dillon,
just had to say that first. but a friend of mine has a lee 1000 last summer he loaded up 2000 rounds and at least 6 of them were squibs (no powder) he gave some rounds to another friend of ours while we were at the range and she had a squib and did not know it. Tap Rack Bang, and there went her Brand new Glock. the barrel looked like in a cartoon when bugs bunny puts his finger in elmers barrel and it bulges out in the middle.
