Unhappy Reloads Leading Bore

I've been reloading for a little over a year now and decided to give lead bullets a try. I purchased Billy Bullets Moly-Kote 200gr. RNSWC .45acp and 180gr. FP .40S&W. I load the .45 with 4.3gr. of Titegroup and the .40 with 3.6gr. of the same. The problem I am having is with leading of the bore, which takes about 15-20 minutes to clean after 50-100 rounds of shooting. I am not using any lube as I have heard that the Moly-Kote acts like lube and reduces the amount of smoke. I have had no reliability problems and accuracy is excellent. I am just looking for a solution to the leading problem, and also an easier way to clean the bore.

I had the same problem with lead bullets. I now use plated (TCJ) bullets. now it's a minute or two and the barrel is done.

That's the reason I stopped using lead bullets. I use Reinier ballistics plated bullets now. Much less cleanup *worth the couple cents to me*. I get them thru midway, and they are fairly inexpensive, and accurate. They are priced i'd guess about halfway between lead, and jacketed bullets.

I have not seen or heard of Billy Bullets, but if they are a coated bullet, then you should not be getting leading. I have shot a lot of lead, and the hardness, and how fast you push them, dictates how much leading you get. I also fire off a mag of plated bullets when I am done as it helps on the cleaning at bit. What I found that worked really good was FP-10 the barrel, then let sit a few hours, or overnight. Lifted the lead right out. You can also use a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and vinegar, but only mix what you need, and ONLY in the barrel for no more than 15 minutes. It will ruin the bore if left in too long.

The last year I have switched to the Poly-M from Master Blaster. NO leading, and my 9mm loads are at 1200fps. Supposedly they are Glock safe as well, but I don't have one to test that.

Thanks for the info I tried using Rainier plated .45 230gr HP's but they would, for lack of a better word, wrinkle near the case mouth when seating and crimping. I've never had a problem with any other rounds before or since so I don't think I will be trying thier product again.

Check the bullet diameter. too small & they will cause more leading. They should be .452 & .401. You are going to get some leading using lead bullets of any kind. You can reduce it a bit by NOT using ultra fast powders like TG & Clays. They blow by the bullet base before the base expands to seal the bore. Try a med. burner for lead bullets like Unique or Universal.
BTW, cleanup after lead bullets is easily done using a Wipeaway lead cloth cut into a patch. Run it back & forth 5-6 times & the lead peels right out. You can also use a bronze brush w/ a bit of copper wool (grocery store) wrapped around it. Plated are definetly cleaner but they do cost more.
