It's important for me to mention that everything I'm about to say comes from what I've read on a multitude of forums, not from any test I've performed whatsoever.

CorBon rounds in general do very poorly in water tests (even the new PowRBall), though I can't remember offhand if DPX was among those tested... I know the general JHP and PowRBall were. I know water tests are certainly not the end-all be-all, but I've also ran into multiple posts on various forums concerning very inconsistent velocities with the DPX in particular and ballistic gelatin fragmentation. For the price I would pay for ANY CorBon load, I expect Speer-like perfection.

What turned me off to Speer itself was the price (a la CorBon, though the awesome X bullet itself had the potential to make up for the cost in my mind). It's reliable as all hell and proven time and time again.... I just wondered if there was something better perhaps even for, ideally, less $$$.

Double Tap seems to make a superior product with the Gold Dots for a heckuva lot less than buying straight from Speer. Out of a short barreled XD9SC, you have excellent velocity and expansion with their unique loadings (far and above GDSB performance). I hear a lot of questions regarding the potential for an overloaded/supercharged Gold Dot to perform poorly or not at all, but this thread put my fears to rest.

So, that's what I'm thinking at the moment. Been a good day of ammo research for me!

target is WWB 9mm FMJ, although I have also used Fiocci, magtech, and cci as target without issues. cci was probably my favorite. FOr defensive carry I use Fed 147gr HST. It went through the gun flawlessly and I like what I have read about this round. The 124gr hydra shock was too violent and flashy for me.

You use the 147gr through your subcompact? Aren't you worried the velocity won't be enough for proper penetration? The 147s are slow as is, but even slower via a 3" barrel.
I thought about using the 147gr HST for my home defense load where the overall shorter distances would hopefully counter the slower speed as well as to help prevent wall penetration. I use a +p load for other places carry.
