Distance of a 9mm round?

Any know how far a 9mm round will go versus a .22?

My dad was talking about how his .22 was more deadly than my 9 and he said "Lets stand at each end of a football field and the .22 would whoop your ass, cus the 9 wouldnt make it.."

So Im wanting to find out how far a 9mm will travel and at what point it isnt deadly...

I searched google but couldnt find anything

A lot of it would depend on the weapon you shot them out of. I would take a .22 on at 100 yards if I was equipped with a carbine that shot 9mm.

go to the range

Go to a 100 yd range and experiment - just make sure you are both at the same end shooting at targets at the other end.

I saw a guy shoot his XD 45 at a 4" clay placed on the berm about 110 yds out. He held about 3 feet high for the first shot and almost missed the berm high. The second shot he held about an inch high (his claim) and busted the clay.

Let us know what you figure out.

Hell, I'll take him on.....an 'Artillery' Luger can make that range very easily.....

A 9mm could easily hit a Man sized target at 100 yds, especially out of a carbine.

it must be a "dad" thing... Because all I hear from my dad these days about my guns is how "you could be killing children on a playground a mile away with a .22 round!" Blah, what ever...

If you go on some of the ammo man. web sites they give you balistics out to one hundred yards, Check for the velocity, trajectory and energy you will be surprised.

I think those are mathematical calculations... How are those in real life testing?

I've shot my 16" Uzi's at 100 yards and there is hardly any drop at all. I don't recall off the top of my head, but maybe 3 inches...

I haven't shot my service XD9 at 100 yards by my beretta 92fs will do about 5-6" drop at 100 yards.

A 4" .45acp has a HUGE drop at 100 yards, were talking over a foot, it's been a long time I can't honestly say how long. .40s&w is about split on drop between the 9mm and .45.

FWIW when shooting pistol rounds at 100 yards wind will play a major factor.. especially with the super slow and fat .45auto. a direct 10mph cross wind can cause you to completely miss a full size target, you can have 10" of drift between 10-15 mph...

Easy answer to your dads challenge... 9mm carbine will easily hit 6" circle at 100 yards. XD9 service will easily hit a 12" circle at 100 yards. Better results are possible, but skill levels need to increase quite a bit for that.
