Silver Bear Ammo
Anyone use Silver Bear 180 gr 40 S&W in thier XD? Magnet sticks to the jacket so I was a bit conerned about pushing them through my XD.

They are coated with Zinc to help with any wear that could occur.
Is your XD magnetic? I don't see what a magnet has to do with anything. Wolf uses steel cases and a magnet will stick to them

In my post I'm referring the jacket, bullet jacket and not the cartridge case. Jackets are typically copper. Some imported ammo such as Wolf, Silver Bear, and even some domestic ammo use a copper washed mild steel jacket for the bullet jacket. I've used plenty of Wolf and Silver Bear (which have a copper washed mild steel jacketed bullet) through my AR and AK without issue. But have never tried this type it in my pistol.
I wasn't clear in my post: my question is should I be concerned about shooting Silver Bear 40 S&W ammo, (which utilizes a mild steel copper washed jacket), thru my XD40? FWIW, at some of the local indoor ranges, if you bring your own ammo, it must pass the "magnet test". If the magnet sticks to the "bullet", you can't shoot it on thier range. As to the Silver Bear, the cartridge case is zinc plated. |

Since even soft steel is harder than gilding metal or copper, I wouldn;t want to shoot a steady diet of steel jackets through any of my firearms. Time to think about handloading?

It'll work just fine. Remember, its not an 'over engineered' American weapon. Its a European designed and built firearm that will eat everything you put in it....steel jacketed ammo should be of no concern, and the metal jacket isn't as hard as you think it is......
