Reloading .38 special vs .357 Magnum

Greetings,

I bought the J&G military surplus .38 special and I am planning to reload them after I used them. The brass looks great and they shoot very nicely.

My question is simple: Is it possible to reload those .38 special cases up to .357 Magnum power?

---> ADDED: I shoot the .38 special on a .357 Magnum revolver. <---

Thank you

NO but you might be able to get them up to +P IF your gun is designed to handle them. Its just as easy to blow up a revolver as it is a bottom feeder. proceed with caustion USING a CHRONO so that you can watch things progress.

The .38 special case length is shorter than the .357 magnum. If you use a mag powder charge seated to 38 sp OAL, your pressures will be excessively high (probably a compressed charge, depending on powder) and a possible "KABOOM!". Seating to mag OAL, I'm not sure how much of the bullet you would have a crimp on. On a 148 gr wadcutter, about 1/2 the bullet (or more) would be sticking out past the end of the case but I don't know if this would cause a problem (possibly a squib? ).

I'm sure others with alot more experience than I will join in with their input and correct me if I'm wrong.
