My new reloading bench

I put this bench together myself using 4X4's 2X10's, 2X6's, sX4's, and some metal brackets. There was a "kit" that was $60 at my local mega hardware store. It was just 2X4's and screws. No brackets or anything else. 6ft long and the example they had out was starting to warp. I knew I could do better in quality, but was not sure if I could do better in price. I put all of this together for about $40.

There is a 2x4 in the front because I forgot that a 2X10 is not exactly 10 inches wide. I had to fill in the gap somehow.

It is rock solid and I hope to get started soon.

Looks pretty sturdy. I would add some gussets in there to stiffen it up some more. I'm not sure if that's what they are called in the wood working world.

It looks like it'll work just fine for you. Good job!

Gussets??? It already has crossmembers and really is rock solid. There are metal brackets connecting the top to the 4X4's, and then the crossmembers are connected across the legs.

The only two things that know I will be adding, are, a back peg board, and possibly a more permanent outlet/plug setup under the front of it with a plug so that it is hard wired, yet still moveable.

It's the red parts there. It forms a triangle which adds a lot of strenght for not a whole lot of weight. I'm not sure if that's what they are called in the wood world but I use them on a lot of stuff I weld together.

Got it. I understand now. I don't think that the load on this bench would be heavy enough to need them. I had actually thought about putting something like that on there, but they would lay flat and not be full like that. More like a flat piece to help hold the pieces together.

You engineers are always over engineering you engineering projects. j/k.

If you can some how screw it into the studs of the wall or tapcon into the concrete, it will not move at all. That is what you want, a bench that does not budge. Nice job!!

Yeah, and where do you find blue steel like that? I've never seen THAT color in stores....

That's how I built my workbench in my basement. There were already vertical "furring" strips on the concrete/stone wall, so I nailed a support brace across the back, built out a frame from that, supported the front corners w/ 4x4's, and topped it w/ particle board plywood (I got all the wood from a construction site dumpster). Cost: $5 (drywall screws from Home Depot), some time drawing it up in CAD, and an afternoon building it.

Duracote...DUH!

Nice bench, I have to build a new one soon myself. I have outgrown mine and its really not near as sturdy as I need. Ill take some of your ideas and add some of my own.
Thanks
