What is the best home defense ammo for a .40 XD I can purchase legally? Brand, grain, weight, etc?

My personnal choice is Federal premium Hydroshock JHP 155grain http://cheaperthandirt.com/67116-6879-183.html. For the house I have the Glaser Silver Safety Slug http://cheaperthandirt.com/73120-5571-183.html
And remember 2 to the body and 1 to the head is the best caliber and reliable ammo there is...

Well, I use what I carry... 165gr Winchester Ranger SXTs. And as I found out today they have a lot of penetration (through and through the wall and another 30-40 yards).

speer gold dots.

any high quality hollow point from a big name manufaturer will work.

for 40 cal id recommend something in 180 grain

Thanks, very helpful. I am new to the handgun world, just recently bought a tactical xd .40, how often should I clean it? I have put about 600 rounds through it and I clean I field strip and clean/oil it after every range visit and oil down the finish. Anything else I am missing?

I wouldn't trust my or my families life on Safety Slugs, or any other prefragmented ammo.
