FTF with .40 165gr SWC
Hey guys I just started reloading some 165gr LSWC and I keep getting FTF. Seems like the bullet is getting stuck half way in the chamber. I'll see I I can get a pic of this posted. I've tried OAL of 1.30 - 1.25 with no success. Do any of you guys have load and OAL for this 165grn LSWC that feeds good in the XD? I've been reloading for over 20 years, but not for this load so any info will be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried just dropping them into the chamber? It sounds like your crimp isn't quite right or they are oversized. A loaded round should drop freely into the chamber & flush w/ the hood.

I too heard that the XD doesn't like SWC. I am using 170 grain lead truncated cones and have no problem. I cast my own. If you want to try some give me your address and i will mail you some along with load and OAL info. They are sized to .4025 and i get minimal leading now.

Here's the load data:
165gr LSWC
Win primers
4.0 gr Red Dot
OAL 1.25
I'm using lee dies no factory crimp. The crimp seems to be OK and the shells drop into the chamber and seat as far down as the factory ammo. They also drop out freely. I've got a friend that shoots the same bullets in his XD and he doesn't have any problems. I'll see if I can get some info from him on OAL and crimp. I've shoot the 180gr TNCs for some time and have no problems with them I just got 165gr bullet because they were on sale.
Been trying to get some macro pics but I'm having trouble getting everything in focus correctly. I'll try and post some pics as soon as I get a good one.

John4538 thanks for the offer the TNC lead bullets is what I normaly shoot and I've never had FTF with them I bought these SWC because they were offering free shipping if I bought 3K should have stuck to my normal loads.
I am thinking of getting into casting, other than the molds what other equiptment do I need to get going. I bought some .38 cal, .45 cal and .44 cal molds and one handle at a garage sale and just wandering what else I would need.

Correction on the OAL I posted. I had my decimals off. I've tried 1.130 - 1.125. Htown posted a some load data that has an OAL of 1.20.
I'll have to try that length. It does seem that I was getting less FTF when they were loaded longer.

When I loaded long 1.137-1.140" for my Service Model and SC .40s I had trouble with going into battery. Went back to the standard 1.125". The only rounds I've found my XDs don't like are 180gr. Xtreme RN FP. Those loaded at the standard length would "catch" or stovepipe.
