45 ACP Primers?

What do you guys like for 45 ACP large pistol primers?

Federal packaging weighs twice as much as others so I won't be buying them.

I know some people say CCI primers are slightly larger and may need more force to seat.

I've been using CCI primers for years. I don't find them any more difficult to seat than any other.

I figured it was either an urban legend or not that big a deal.

When ordering online you are charged a hazmat fee that usually allows up to 50 pounds of primer and/or powder.

Federal primers use larger packaging then other companies.

The woman I spoke to at Powder Valley said to estimate primer weight as 2 pounds per thousand of Federal and 1 pound per thousand of most other companies.

If I am splitting an order with a buddy and we order 20,000 Federal primers then I am already at about 40 pounds.

I run Winchester primers for both large and small. I was told once by an old timer that Winchester on Dillon presses was the best match. I have never had a single issue.

Check your press for which to buy. Lee states, DO NOT USE FEDERAL PRIMERS. So I use either CCI or Win SP.

Check your press manf.

Yeah I have seen that warning.

I have a Dillon and have no issues with Federals so far.

I pretty much buy waht is available. I have found diff. primers have little affect on anything but match type target loads. Federal primers are a bit more sensative & easier to ignite, good for striker fired pistols, bad for M1 or M1as.
