Precision 230 gr RN....need help

I a loaded a batch with fed 150, Bullseye 5.2 gr and col of 1.260. I can't get them to feed in my XD or a 1911 Operator which works on most anything. Even when I rack the first round it doesn't allways go into battery. Any advice? Shorten/lengthen the col? Heavier charge?

Try shortening the COL. I've had this problem with one of my 9mm's. I shortened the COL enough so that the bullet would not contact the throat. I also rechecked my crimp to see if that was causing a problem.

Check the bullet dia. as well, you may have slightly oversize bullets, lead can get that way. They should be 0.452".

I've shortened the COL to 1.245 and added more crimp. I can get a few to feed, but not many. I'm afraid of too much pressure.

Is it hard to extract?

If not, I would have to assume too long COL. I use 1.200 for COL on 228g LRN.

If it is hard to extract, you have a sizing problem. Same thing my buddy experienced. A Lee carbide factory crimp die will solve that problem.

Yes, the loaded rounds that don't chamber are hard to extract. I Don't have this problem with jacketed or plated bullets.

My guess is that the Precision bullet is slightly larger in diameter than your other bullets causing the case to bulge a little bit. Have you mic'ed them? I bet they are few thousandths bigger than other rounds that do chamber well.

Do you know anyone with a Lee carbide factory crimp die? What it does in addition to crimping is it does a post crimp size to ensure that they chamber correctly if the round is a little oversized. Worst case, you can buy the die alone for about $14 I think.

Since I use all kinds of odd ball brass, not all of them have the same thickness and I'd bet about 20-30% would give me fits without that die. Partly because I size my bullets to .452 and not .451, but I prefer .452.

Lest you think I am alone in this opinion, check out the user reviews on it at Midway. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=716704

I have never had an issue with their 230gr Ball Bullets, but I do know that unless I load the 147gr 9mm bullets short, I have problems. They seem to be too tight in the chamber.

I've seen the same thing when using their 200gr.RNFP.
You need to reduce the COL.
Remove the bbl. from your gun and try to drop one of your rounds into the chamber.
Keep reducing the COL until it just drops freely.
For me it was about 1.225.
