accuracy 45acp
witch bullet is more accurate a 230gn RN or a 200gn HP?
I am getting ready to order 1000 of them and need to see if one is better than the other. They are for my XD 45 COMPACT 4 INCH. THANKS |

Are you reloading ? (Options are much greater if you do.)

yea I am reloading on a dillon 550b and have made 500 or so 230gn rn rounds and shot them they did very well but the reason I ask is that i can get the 200gn HP cheaper and if they are more accurate then thats the way I will go.
thanks |

Hmmm...well do these bullets have a step in them like the step between the shank and the nose of a (H & G # 68 style) 200gr. SWC ? <- If so, your gun may NEVER feed these reliably without extensive welding modifications to the slide. I switched to a FP design without such a step (a tc style) and although I am still in the early stages of testing my feeding problems with the SWC design stopped.
Alas the holes are not cut as clean on the target paper. Second question : I assume these are LEAD bullets , right ? Last edited by para_org; 04-25-2007 at 09:16 AM. |

I'm interested in this too!! Let's get a good thread going! I bought some pre-loaded LSWC for my new Springfield XD at the gun show when I purchased the gun last week and they fed like crap!! I had so many FTFs it wasn't even funny. The slide also jacked up a lot of my brass when it'd get caught up so I had to throw quite a few pieces away. When I ordered my stuff to load them I went with the cheapest metal round nose bullets I could find, which I believe were Rainer lead safe's. I still want to find a lead bullet so I can load cheaper for practice.
I'm also curious as to what weight of grain performs better in the XD Compact's with 4" barrel. Most popular is 185, 200, & 230 grain, but what are the advantages to each and which one's will these guns likely favor? |

It really depends on the gun itself. What is more accurate for one gun, may not function so well in another.

Of course YMMV but, with many decades of target shooting with .45 acp, finding such "universal" loads is not so far fetched as it might seem. |

Until the SWC feeding problem is "resolved" I have not done ANY work on the weight/accuracy issue. Perhaps someone else has ? |

The Bullets I am refering to are Berrys 230gn round nose and 200gn Hollow points. These are copper plated. But I can buy the 200gn hp cheaper so I wanted to know if one is better than the other on accuracy. The load is W231 5.4 gn, FED 150, .468 crimp. This was the load for my 230gn round nose bullets. thanks
PS I tried 200GN lead SWC had no sucuess FTF all the time. |

All pistols are diff. but typ. I find the JHP a bit better accuracy wise as the bases are more uniform than the exposed lead base of most FMJ.
