Anyone ever user magtech 95 gr jsp 9mm ammo?

I picked up a few boxes from SG, figured i would give it a try. This ammo scared the bejesus out of me on the first round. The muzzle flash was HUGE. It literally looked like the flashes you see in the movies. If i had to take a guess i would say the flame coming out of the end of the barrel was a goo 12 inches long.

Anyone else ever experience this?

I've used FMJ Magtech in .45 and 9mm and avoid it now but I didn't have a flame issue like you describe.

Why do you avoid it?

It was dirtier than WWB, Blazer or Independence for about the same price; out of a 50rd box of .45 (buddy had bought a case and I bought a box from him to try at the range) I had a 2 low power rds (didn't squib but definitely weren't full power); his wife had an FTF out of 200 rds of 9mm through a new (under 200 rds before that range day) SC with what appeared to be a good primer strike (only FTF that pistol has had) and my buddy had an FTF although that was probably a light primer strike issue with his pistol.

I'm not saying I won't shoot it. I will just choose other ammo first. It is the only ammo I have ever personally had issue with. Maybe it was just a bad run. Maybe I have just been really lucky with other ammo. Still, just on the dirty factor alone I prefer not to use it.

I would think it was probably a bad lot. My friends and I have been using Magtech for years without any of the problems you mentioned including the dirty part. I'm not doubting you it's just that it's such a huge depatrure from my experience with it.

I have only shot Magtech in 357 and 44 magnum. It was very clean and nice hot loads, not the wimpy "almost magnums" you often find in budget ammo. I liked it. Magnum revolvers are supposed to be flame throwers.

I have not come across any for 9mm or 45 ACP.

Good chance it was similar lots as the .45 and 9mm were ordered in bulk by my buddy from a local gun shop. I'm just leery of using something I had an issue with, but I know people who like it and haven't had issues which is why I limited my original comment to simply that I avoid it. I'd shoot it if it was a real bargain or nothing else was immediately available. I'm just not going to choose it if I have other similarly priced options available. Maybe I'll give it another shot one day for no other reason than to compare.

I hear you brother. I'm a tough nut to crack once I've been jaded by something. Well ats a wonderful thing that we have lots of different ammo to chose from.
