SHopping List

I have a progressive press (Lee, its already set up for .40, .45 dies will come soon after) that will be at my home next weekend. I have a tumbler on order from midway. Building my first reloading bench saterday. I know that I need Powder, Primers, bullets, and brass. I also have a lee manual.

What else will I need to reload 40 and 45? Any tips for a total NOOB?
Let me know,

Boe

Powder Scale
Case Trimmer
Dial Calipers
Loading Block
Good lighting ( to see the powder level in your cases)

Best tip I can give you is to have an experienced reloader show you how to do it.

Amen to that! The amount of powder is one of the most important factors in loading. Also check your brass for cracks and pits. The most important item is your eyes... check everything twice!

Take your time, the first one will take longer than the last ones. Start your dies backed off, and screw them down as you go. "Sneak up" on the adjustments. If you feel like you are distracted, stop and do something else.

Case lube may or may not be needed. I use Carbide dies, and you don't lube those. Also, something to handle primers is handy, but not required.

The press takes care of powder and primers. Just need to check the first 2-3 and every 10 or so to check powder consistency. The guy that Im getting the press from told me that I wouldnt need to trim the cases.
Do I? Or No?

Every couple of times you reload a case, you may have to trim them.

The trouble to trim pistol brass considering the cost, I don't even really see the reason to waste the time, effort, nor the $200 for a trimmer rig.
