Is ammo in short supply?

Maybe the increase in the cost of ammo is related to the shortage caused by the wars. The article in the link below also blames the surge in materials used by China and India.

http://www.gopusa.com/news/2007/apri...shortage.shtml

I just picked up about $500 in ammo with some sales incentive Cabela's gift cards (thank God not my money) to hold me over for a little while. I got another .45ACP bulk case with 500 rounds of Wolf in a green plastic ammo case for $124.99, along with some Sellier & Bellot at $7.99 for the 9mm and $12.99 for the .45ACP. Then I "treated" myself to a box of Black Hills .45ACP at $32.99 to round out the shopping trip.

My XD9 has been eating all this with no problems. I'm still waiting on the XD45 Tac to return from Springer with the Barsto barrel. So, I don't know how it will like this stuff.

Yep, supply and demand for the reasons you stated. I've also heard in this forum and others (who work with suppliers) that prices will be going up again.... soon... I'm saving my brass, time to start reloading in the near future

Just got a call, my XD45 Compact Tactical is in Looks like I'll be "collecting" some more brass soon...

Is a combonation of both the war and India and China.

WHat I posted on another board:

Quote:
The last report I read stated that the US Army alone (this isn't including the other branches) is going through 1.5 billion rounds a year for training and combat operations. Lake City (the only DOD operated ammunition plant at this time) is spooled up and producing as fast as they can and they can only get about 1.2 billion rounds a year out of the door. The Govt. has a stockpile stashed away of approx. 1billion rounds but they dont' like to dip into it unless its an emergency. This has led them to go to outside soruces (like Radway ammo from Britian) to fill the gap. From what I understand the govt. is trying to spool up some of the plants that used to produce ammo during Vietnam and WWII to try to catch back up. This has led to the shortage of Domestic surplus the last few years.

As for the Wolf. The US govt. placed an order with various Russian ammo mauf. to produce a few billions rounds of various caliber ammo for the Afghani and Iraqi govts. incase the democrats win the election next year and pull the US out of those countries. This is causing the shortage of Russian Surplus ammo.

All of the manufacturers costs have gone up due to the increase in costs of raw materials.

The manufacturing reps are telling us dealers that we will never see the below cost ammo prices that we have enjoyed the last few years.

Ammo prices should level out in 2008, unless there are further Political or military influences.
