Dillon 550b Powder measure
I got my Dillon 550b about 9 months ago. My father in-law gave me his unused RCBS Rockchucker, uniflow powder measure, scale and other unused stuff. It was like christmas in September. I use the rockchucker to deprime before cleaning brass and to pull bullets with a Hornady puller. I couldnt get the hang of the kinetic hammer.
Anyway, I dont really care for the screw adjustment on the dillon powder bar. Its a bit of a pain switching back and forth between settings. I am still testing loads and different powders and need something more accurate and time saving I am not sure if I should get the UniqueTek Micrometer Powder Bar Kitto replace the Dillon adjustment screw. They also make a Shellplate Illuminator that fills in the hole in the center of the toolhead. Option 2 is to use the RCBS Uniflow Powder Measure with a Case Activated Linkage Kitand the RCBS Micrometer Adjustment Screw Anyone use the UniqueTek Micrometer replacement? If so what do you think of it? Or has anyone tried the RCBS setup?

I have the Redding Powder measure when I make precision reloads. Also I have one powder measure for each caliber I reload for. They are cheap if you space out the price over time. I also have this gadget on one of them.
http://www.mrdial.com/ It is half the price of the Uniquetek gadget and a reasonably precise adjustment. The Dillon powder system is not as accurate when it comes to larger powder sizes like Unique and some others. Small flake powders like Tightgroup and Bullseye work best in it.

Get a Lee powder measure. They're a piece of cake to adjust, and are very accurate

I don't know woh old your 550B measure is but you can update (probably free) to their new one which has a linkage sim. the the RCBS. I like the mikro-tek bar, don't have one, but the guys that do rave about it. I don't care for the Lee measure but your mileage may vary.

I'm using the UniqueTek Micrometer Adjusters on my Dillon 650 and think they're great. I have two measures setup, one for rifle and one for pistol. I sold all the rest of my powder measures on ebay because with the Uniquetek adjuster I didn't need them anymore. I wish they had come out sooner. After you get a baseline on a powder you can come very close just by adjusting the micrometer to the desired setting. If assembled correctly they are very accurate. I tried large adjustment knobs but it still was tedious to dial in the desired powder weight.

I use a plastic "wheel-type" knob which fits over the adjustment screw on my 650's powder drop. They're available for around $.60 from Home Depot.
I also use the Hornady drum-type powder measure with the Hornady case-activated kit, which will, btw, work with the Uniflo powder drop. |
