I have NEVER found Cabelas or Gander Mtn. to be competitive in ammo pricing.
Since Cheaper Than Dirt is located in TX, I pay sales tax AND shipping with those folks, so they're out of the running as well. Sportsman's Guide is ok, but their shipping prices are huge and they just leave whatever I order sitting on the front porch to get swiped or soaked with rain everytime. No thank you. Our bigger gunstores and chain gunstores? Forget it...too high. Ditto for the smaller gunstores. I only buy hunting rifle ammo or specialty stuff in small batches from these guys. Aim Surplus has pretty good prices and they don't kill me on shipping. Academy and Wal Mart is where I get most of my plinking ammo. They're the better deal. - Brickboy240

I buy WWW at Wallmart a couple of cases at a time per caliber. It makes the price increases less emotional. You might want to consider going 9mm for training; either via conversion barrel or pistol. My FireDragon barrel "broke-even" at 6 months and now I'm "saving" $25 a month shooting 9mm in IDPA.

If you're shooting .45ACP, reloading is the only way to go. I can do it for 10 cents a round here. And for that price I'm getting much better quality ammo than Blazer, Wolf, WWB or Remington UMC selling at 25 to 30 cents a round.
Gotta love it!

If you shoot a lot, with the cost of metals going up like they are you would be better off to start reloading. I just purchsed a Dillon 650 and will have it paid for in ammo savings in about 3 months with as much as I shoot (.45ACP)

I'm proud I have not shopped at Wal-Mart now for 3 months. However, I'm also almost out of ammo I had stock piled. Doh

Vance's, the major local gunshop, has 9mm WWB on sale again this month for $6.99 per 50 round box. I picked-up a case (1000 rounds) a few weeks ago for $149.24 (after tax). I think I'll probably buy another 2000 rounds this month.
If I planned on keeping my .40, I might be compelled to buy a few cases of that as well... But I think they have it "on sale" for $9.99/box. |

I normally buy from Natchez shooting supplies but I just received an email from them stating CCI and Federal prices were going to increase at the end of the month
The prices are going up everywhere. Glad I bought a Dillon! |
