Bonded Ammo...

I've been using Remington Golden Sabre's, and I really like them. The other day, I picked up a new box and when I got home I noticed that they say "bonded". The ones that I've been using don't say that. Being a new to the world of handguns, I have to ask... What's the difference?

By the way, there's nothing else differnt on the box, and they look exactly the same.

If I remember correctly, The copper is bonded to the lead. They do this so it will hold togeter on impact.

So it spreads out more... rather than fragmenting?

Bonded bullets often do not expand as much as non bonded ammo. You give up a little expansion for barrier penetration.

Golden sabers have always been bonded. Like stated before they are bonded so the lead and jacket will stay in once piece.

Yes, the lead core is bonded to the jacket so that it stays together. The GS had a lot of problems with jacket seperation so a few years ago they came out with the bonded line. When it first came out it was a resricted sale to Law Enforcement only. I stopped stocking it a few years ago due to slow sales.

If you are wonder what the word Bonded actually refers to, it is similar to soldering. Instead of a chunk of lead molded inside a copper cup, the lead is porued into the copper cup as liquid or the lead chunk is put into the cup and then the bullet blank is heated until the lead melts. When the lead solidifies it is soldered or "bonded" to the copper jacket. The bullet then runs through a die and press system to for the end bullet shape.

Speer does it a little differently. They plate the the lead core instead of soldering it. They then form the bullet.

bonded

coerbon/dpx is s solid cooper bullet so no seperation. gs is soldered as mentioned but god dots are electomagnetically bonded. so no separation and good penetration
