What type of ammo do police use?

I read somewhere that police and sheriff's can only shoot normal ammo, like round nose and softpoint....rather then hollow points, FMJ's, or any other style of bullet....is this true??

Some dept. mandate FMJ only. I'm not sure of the ones that do. That is why federal made the expanding metal jacket.

In the Twin Cities (MN), at least 5 departments I have worked with use Fedral Hydra-Shocks.
