Monarch Ammo

I've been purchasing Monarch ammo from Academy Sports. Best prices around by far. Bought 1000 rounds of steel and 1000 rounds of brass 9mm. Who else has tried this ammo? Are there any drawbacks?

I believe I've read on other forums that the steel cased is the same as Wolf. It definitely looks exactly like it.

The old Wolf yes.

I use the lacquered only in my 9mm AR.
I use the brass in everything else.

Great plinking ammo, very cheap, well worth it for what it is.

I've used it and have had no problems. I had some light strikes at first but that was due to a sping problem.

I've used some of it in my AR. No problems.

I was planning on using the steel in 9mm and 7.62x39. Brass 40 and 45.

I noticed that they have steel cased 30-30 rifle ammo. Can't remember exact price, but it was far less expensive than the brass-cased ammo. Has anyone tried steel cased ammo in rifle calibers other than in ARs and AKs?

I shot about 400 rnds of Monarch at one outing while I was at home. Not a single failure out of them. A little dirty but goes bang every time. And at 4.86 a box when I bought it you can't beat it.

I've put a lot of Wolf thru my 40 with no problems, so I didn't hesitate to buy the Monarch for my 9.

Friday I bought 50 rds each of the Monarch Russian (steel case) the Monarch Serbien (brass case) & the Blazer (aluminum case). All three functioned flawlessly through the XD-9. While cleaning after the range visit I did not notice any difference from any other ammo I've used. At $4.86 fpr 50 rds, it rocks.

If you reload. i wouldnt suggest using the Monarch .223 brass... ive shot about 500 rds of it and picked up the brass.... Before reloading i inspected all the brass. All of them had a huge indention where the "extractor claw" gripped them... None of my Remington or Winchester brass has that problem. So i think Monarch Brass is some what soft.

I had bought the mentioned 500rds at $3.86 per 20... Went back one week later and they had marked the crap up to $6.99 per 20. But the green boxes still have $3.86 on them... argh... Back to reloading the remingtons and winchester brass.....
