$50.00?!?
Check this out:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...?Item=67991478 Ok so, $52.00 for a box of 50 with three days to go on the auction. Does this sound reasonable? Because if it does then I kid you not that my roommate brought home an order of 10 boxes of that exact ammo for a grand total of $141.00. When I saw this it didn't seem possible. And not only does he have the 500 rounds but we can go get another 1000 tomorrow if we so choose. Will someone please wake me from this dream. Edit: Keep in mind that I don't know anything about what makes this ammunition so special. We went in looking to buy a bulk amount of target ammunition. The salesman told us that he could get us this stuff. I remarked, "Why would we want hollow points for target shooting?" He said, "Well, they are hollow points but I can get them for 13.50 a box. So my roomie said, "Gimme 10 boxes." We picked them up a week later. Last edited by MisterCee; 03-25-2007 at 04:49 PM. |

It is only reasonable if the bidders reside in a state where there is no other source for Talons..... Why else would someone want to pay so much for pistol ammo????? Talons are not all that special.....Hornady Tap, Speer Gold Dots or Remington Golden Sabers will suffice for any normal defense pistol use. If you need more, then you probally need a long gun.
Here is another example of an absurd price for them.....note that the boxes are WORN. http://www.anythingwholesaleaz.com/i...ROD&ProdID=970 |

Thanks but it's still a strange scenario. If the ammunition is available all over then the buyer is either extraordinarily stupid or breaking the law. I can't seem to connect the dots between my paying 13.50 for it down the street and someone else willing to buy it from me for 4 times that price.
Hypothetically let's say that I would sell each of these boxes for 20 bucks a piece. Would people be climbing over each other to get them so they could resell them for a guarenteed 50 a piece? If not, why not? I find it hard to believe that such a coincidence could happen. We come back with the ammo and the first place we see it for sale wants 50 a box. The only thing I could figure was that the dealer did not know what he was selling and the supplier had had them for so long he did not know the value of them. Sorry for my apparent urgency in this thread but anomalies like this fascinate me. Strangely enough when I ask my roomie if he would sell these boxes if he could get $50 a piece he says no. He wants to hold on to them... Strange, ammo is climbing so quickly in price that it's almost worth investing in a few thousand rounds just so you can sell it in 6 months. Which leads me to one more question. Let's say this ammo was sitting in some basement for an unknown amount of time, what is it's shelf-life? How long can you hold onto it before you wouldn't recommend putting it through your barrel? Whew... Last edited by MisterCee; 03-25-2007 at 05:24 PM. |

He is selling ammo to collectors. The Ranger SXT has been out of production pushing ten years now. The +P 45 sales for 60-80 per box most of the time on gunbroker.

I never stock that ammo because there is no demand for it. Most of it has been dumped on the wholesale market now.
It is every bit as good as the standard white box USA hollowpoints. |
