A good reloading guide will list the primers you should get for the load you are going to make.

.38/.357 small pistol
.45 large pistol

I agree with lowflyer read a good reloading manual before you start to reload.

I've heard Lee's was pretty good also. I read two older books... but the point is getting more of an insight.

Lees reloading book is excellent for a beginner. You will need both large and small primers for the calibers you posted

Yep 38/357 take samll pistol primers
45ACP take large pistol primers

Neither require magnum primers but you can use them if you want.

I do not particularly like CCI primers they are the hardest of all the primers out there, but usually the cheapest. I prefer Federal but that's just me.
