You might want to do plenty of research before you make the dive.
http://countertop-chronicles.blogspo...or-dillon.html

Chris at anarchangel did a pretty comprehensive comparison between RCBS and Dillon presses and specificially the cost involved.
http://anarchangel.blogspot.com/2007...d-vs-blue.html

He also has a pretty good rundown of his RCBS press that he uses. http://anarchangel.blogspot.com/search/label/reloading

All that being said, not everyone is drinking the blue koolaid.

Good books on reloading-Getting Started

What are some of your favorite books on beginning reloading. I have only reloaded shot shells so consider me a neophyte with respect to pistol ammo. The equipment is pretty well covered here and I will be reloading everything from 9mm to .454 Casull.

The idea of reloading pistol rounds on a single-stage press makes me want to hurt myself.

There was a guy at the range yesterday walking around picking up all kinds of empty casings. Now my question is can you just pick up any and every spent casing and re-load it or should you buy new ones? I am researching getting into reloading mostly for hunting purposes, but how long would it take me to recoup my investment in .40 ammo? Can you reload HP's?

You can pick up any brass..... I only reload pistol. 9mm, 10mm and 45acp. I pick up all brass from the firing range. If I don't like the way it looks then I don't pick it up. I haven't had any problems as of yet. Just started this summer.... reloaded about 3000 rounds so far. I like to go on weekends when the jerks are done firing... right before closing and shoot and pick brass. I figured around 10,000 rds of 45acp is when I'll break even. I was thinking of about a year here in Alaska... but with the price of brass and ammo... 10,000 rds feels about right. Good luck...

Just wondering, what is the main benefit for reloading ammo, is it cheaper, more accurate etc.?

Yeah man, GO BUCS!
Handloaded ammo is often more accurate than factory. You can fine tune for your pistols. Cost is always cheaper than buying new as long as you are reusing the cases. Everytime I go to the range I find 100s of once fired cases left by guys that shoot factory. I should stop picking it up, but it doesn't go bad & you can always trade or sell it.
Another advantage of handloading is you can duplicate your favorite factory carry/hunting load for a fraction of what factory costs. If you aren't handloading, you aren't shooting enough!

Storing reloaded ammo?

I started reloading after 15 years of doing other things and now I'm into IDPA and USPSA and reloading more. The question is this: What is the best way to store reloaded ammo? (storage ammo box for each bullet or in mass storage) one bag for 9mm, one for .40 and another for .45. Is putting them in mass asking for trouble?................. Thanks isyer
