That's a good load

except for the rifle primers. I wouldn't shoot them under any circumstances.
My Pro 1000 loads that with WLP, 4.5 of 231 and a 225 [230gr] truncated cone by Bull-X. It shots to factory point of aim with my compac/tac and the recoil is about right. Reloading the magazine twice and regripping, I still got eleven or twelve rounds in one hole at fifty feet indoors rested. two or three were out of the lole less than one quarter inch and I yanked one out of the black from fatigue. I'm going to try 4.3, but lower than that probably won't work, with the luck I've had with 200 grainers. I think I will be able to get them to work too, but a spring change would probably work easier for them.
The length for perfect headspacing on my barrel and that bullet was 1.2195 and the crimp was .725.
Good Luck.

Hey guys, I've been looking over this and other data, but it's all greek to me. I'm looking to get into reloading this summer/fall (acquiring components/dies in the summer, press in the fall) and had a question about a load.

We use a lot of reloads in our GC and the .45 one we use seems to be a pretty soft shooting and accurate loads. Problem is it's pretty dirty, I'd like to replicate it, just cleaner. The load is 230 grain hard cast LRN bullets over 4.3 grains of Green Dot. I was planning on using plated bullets like these as sort of a compromise between cheaper cast bullets and FMJ.

Any input would be bery much appreciated.

Berrys are fine bullets.I would use W231 for your powder.

I usually use Ranier's plated from Midway. It may be cheaper to use cast but I can't bring myself to handle raw lead all the time. Not so much for me but my son. I think the little bit of extra cash that I spend on plated bullets helps a little but I have no scientific way to be sure so maybe it just makes me feel better.

My question:
The chart that came with my Lee 4-die set suggests 5.0grains of Titegroup for 185grn. Plated Flat Nose bullets as a starting point. Most of the powder charges I see here are under 5.0 grains. Is the Lee recomendation to much?

I am using Winchester primers if that will make that much of a diffrence.

edit: I just noticed that the Cabela's website has Berry's Plated bullets for cheaper than Berry's own website does. Berry's also charges a "lead surcharge" that jacks the price up a pretty good ammount.

Trying the cheaper route

I also usually get 230 RN Rainiers from Midway or my local shop (if I need them ASAP). I load with 5.0 Unique, CCI 300 primers and they shoot great.

Last night I bit the bullet (no pun intended) and order 1,000 Oregon Trail Laser Cast bullets (230 lead RN). They are on sale at $31.99 per 500 (normally $42.99). I also had to get another 500 of the Rainiers just couldn't help my self!

Anybody used the bullets? Oh, well I'm gonna find out. Components are getting so ridiculously priced it unreal.

Hell even locally components are hard to find. I had to hit 4 shops before I found ANY large pistol primers. Midway is for the most part out of pretty much all primers

Has anyone had issues with running a Flat Point bullet through the XD?

I read a review at Midway where a guy said they would not cycle through his XD, but work fine through his 1911.

I'd prefer to get round nose, but the FP cooper plated are on sale right now

I run flat point reloads in my .40 Service and .45ACP Tactical with zero stoppages to date.

I reload 45-ACP with 230gr Precision bullets (coated), 4.0 grains of Alliant Bullseye powder, and federal 150 large pistol primers. I use Frankford Arsenal case lube to keep my Dillon SDB running slick. This recipe seems to burn very dirty. Is it the powder or is it the case lube?

what is the difference between the 3 or 4 die sets?

Thanks
