Finally got to use the chrono...

I'm going to have to figure out how to get chrono doing the math for me as it's taken me a while to do it all on the calculator... and I'm going to want to invest in either a micro disk or adjustable charge bar so I can make smaller changes in powder dump. More control to inch my way up instead of going from 4.5gr-4.9-5.2. Eh, live and learn. I also think the 15# spring may be too light as when shooting FAST, some rounds failed to go into battery. Though I also think it could be the fact that I loaded the rounds a little long. (1.135-1.137") I'll make a load of about 4.7-4.9 of PowerPistol @ the standard OAL 1.125" for Saturday's IDPA and we'll see what it chronos later.

Through my Service Model XD40 w/DGR and 15# spring:

Definately. Next time we'll bring one of your stand so I can also test accuracy. Though mathematically, PowerPistol may be the best load soo far (once at pf).

BTW, I shot that 131pf load of Universal Clays again today just to see how sensitive it is to temperature and it shot roughly 850-860s.

Out of the two loads (126pf PP and the 131pf Universal Clays) I feel the UC one, though statistically not as accurate, is a nicer load. I like the way it feels. I feel it's faster - slide movement - and easier to get back on target. I don't know. I'll have to try this setup again when it's not a dry heat with desert settings and I don't feel like I'm rubbing my fingers raw from gripping the pistol (though i did have a blast today). I'll go shooting again on Sunday with the ol' man so I'll try it and see how I feel.

.40 brass

How many times are you able to reload your .40 brass? Are there any issues such as bulging like a Glock? I am thinking of doing an XD 40 for Limited. I currently reload .45 on a Dillon 650 and the brass lasts forever.

If you shoot 40 in limited you'll loose it before it wears out in my opinion. I don't typically keep any of my brass at the few ranges that we can pick up (read on gravel in stead of dirt) just do to the fact I've had problems with rims getting chewed up and then not extracting and running my match. I have how ever reloaded 5-6 times I think and still didn't notice any signs. I've actually shot brass, that some how I missed during checking, that had rust holes in the side. Did it at a major match and didn't notice it until I got the the chrono stage and the chrono man saw a few. I quickly double checked the rest that I had.

.40 brass I have has not worn out as far as I can tell. The only thing I gauge is the splits(in the cases) and the battering of the rim. The case guage will tell you if they are both bad. It's just like a .45 acp. You can tell.

correct me if im wrong but it seems alot of the reloading in this forum if for competition and getting a consistent load as far as fps, which in the long run will give you better results at the range, but how many people are reloading just for the price point, and if so where is have you found to be the cheapest place to get bullets? and what grain?

I just started reloading for rifle because of the number of bullets my brother and I go through for groundhog hunting and so forth. Excluding equipment I calculated it to be about 5 dollars for 20 rounds as opposed to 37 that I paid during hunting season.

It seems in the end with pistol ammo it will still be slightly cheaper to reload depending on the cost of the bullet, powder and primers seem pretty negligible
due to the low about of gains needed per shell for pistol ammo.

It seems like everything in this thread is for the 40 ... Is anyone reloading 10mm ??

Got any favorite light loads for range use, and maybe a full-house load for hunting ??
