Here is a minor load I've been playing with a bit. Out of a .40 Tac w/ stock spring.
180gn Zero JHP
3.6gn Titegroup
1.140 oal
WSP
.420 crimp
72 deg. Cloudy

Avg. velocity out of a 10 string was - 773.8
Avg. PF - 139.3

I like it! 3.6 grain to keep the slide cycling with the stock spring, and long oal to keep pressure down...

And it cycles well at that length? I haven't gone over 1.135 in the XD, and most of my loads are at 1.130. I've had good luck with 3.3 tg, 180 grain moly coated but I have only shot with the 16 lb spring, but I'd like to shoot minor PF with the stock spring to enhance reliability. The 16 is a little loose getting back to battery especially when not brand new.

In my gun, that is.

For what it is worth, my Major load for my XD40 Tactical is 5.5 gr VVN340, 180gr Hornady HAP, WSP, 1.126 OAL. PF = 172.8 (960 fps).

Good to know.

Ever use N320 for a 40 load?

KY Doc, as mentioned I'm still evaluating this load & oal and have only shot about 50 rnds of it through the XD. So far it works fine.

The N320 is good stuff although I can't find enough difference between it and the Titegroup to justify paying the additional cost.

4.7 grains of VV3220 with a 180 bullet and seat to 1.140-1.145. It hits major in my Tactical at about 167-168 pf.

We use a 16 lb. spring for minor and major and have NEVER had a stoppage of any kind in the gun.

VV320 is a VERY clean burning powder and can be loaded to factory OAL in minor PF. IMO, TG is much dirtier.

Another good powder for .40 is Universal but this powder shines best when used for major PF and can be loaded to 1.125.

145 grain master blaster bullets: Max load?

I just loaded up 100 rounds of these bullets that someone gave me to play with.

I couldn't find any load tables that used them but saw that 135 grain has a max of 5.8/6.1 of titegroup (depending on whose table... Hodgedon is 5.8 and Lyman is 6.1) and 155 grain has a max of 5.4. Note that these are jacketed so moly coated should be hotter, but my OAL is 1.130 and these were measured at 1.125

I loaded up 4.3, 4.5, 4.8, 5.1, and 5.4 grains TG and plan to shoot/chrono up to the 5.4 if the 5.1s aren't too hot.

Anyone use these bullets with TG and give me some guidance on the powder charges? I think the 5.4 will be at or near max. Or if anyone has seen a load table for this combo... it's an odd weight bullet, I know.

Thanks.

4.3 will just barely make minor I think. We did some testing with those bear creeks.

Oh, yeah. I just looked back. How did you like the way they shot?

I guess if you liked it, you'd be using 4.3/140 minor, and 4.3/180 major.

If that was just on the borderline, tho, maybe the 145 will be a safer margin for making minor.

It didn't really do much for me. Its going to be a fast flat shooting round but other than that I'll stick with the 180s.
