Kydoc and Me did some chrono testing today. I've got the tac results and he has the service results. The clays is by far the softest pistol load I've ever shot, centerfire of course. The 140s are snappy and fast 4.4 would put you into minor but your going to feel it. Also the temp was ~35-40 degrees.
Anyway here ya go. Gun: Tac .40 XD hard chromed barrel (and everything else) 180 Bear creek moly coated: 3.3 tightgroup 1.125 Oal Mixed brass 766.2 AVGFPS 138.6 AVG PF 180 Bear Creek Moly coated: 3.5 tightgroup 1.125 OAL Mixed brass 826.3 AVGFPS 148.5 AVG PF 180 Bear creek Moly coated: 3.0 CLAYS 1.125 OAL Mixed Brass 776.5 AVG FPS 139 AVG PF VERY SOFT!!! 140 Bear creek moly coated: 4.2 titegroup 1.125 OAL Mixed brass 871.3 AVG PFS 122 AVG PF 140 Bear creek moly coated: 4.3 titegroup 1.125 OAL Mixed brass 891.3 AVG FPS 125 AVG PF 180 Bear creek moly coated: 4.2 titegroup 1.125 OAL Mixed brass 941.6 AVG FPS 168.83 AVG PF 180 Bear creek moly coated: 4.3 titegroup 1.125 OAL Mixed brass 969 AVG FPS 175.43 AVG PF

Good stuff KYDoc and Steel... thanks a bunch for the load data. It's very helpful. I just got the Hodgdon Annual Manual this weekend also. ::excited::

Ky/Steel ... with your moly coated rounds do you notice a lot of lead "smoke"? I shot LaserCasts as my first reloads and had a lot so I just ordered some Berry's Double Struck Plated and am going to try that also. Just wondering because I'm working out the kinks and having a cloud of lead in front of me is no good.

I've never shot pure lead so I don't have a lot to compare to. There will be some smoke with fast powders like titegroup a little less with clays. I don't mind what I get though.
One way to make sure you get less smoke with the moly coated ones is to make sure you bell your case enough so that the moly isn't scrapped off when seating.

Alright boys... I just loaded up 45 rounds tonight. I just got my Berry's 180gr. Flat Point Double Struck bullets in and had to do something. I only had 45 empty brass laying around so I loaded 20 up with 3.3-3.4gr of TiteGroup and the remaining 25 with 3.1gr of Clays. I'll shoot them next week through both Service Models to let you know what I feel. All rounds were loaded to a COL of 1.125" with mixed brass mostly CCI with Federal 100 primers. I'm excited now.

I didn't notice too much using TG and Precision Moly's, but I was concentrating so as not to destroy my new chrono.
I've heard that that combo smokes, but I didn't think it was that big a deal, and the gun wasn't any dirtier than any other ammo I've used. Unfortunately (fortunately) I have to redo all my rounds through my NEW XD-40 TAC! (After I get it properly modified, of course) |

The TAC is just because all the cool shooters have a tac. Brand new, great deal - highly recommend budsgunshop (bought in store, but online pricing works out nearly the same) |
