9mm / 38 Caliber Reloading

Post you questions, answers, and recommendations about the 9mm and .38/.357 caliber load data here.

Use this load data at your own risk. YOU, and ONLY you, are responsible to use common sense and safe load development techniques in working up to a good load for your own use. Always consult the Powder Manufacturer’s specs and stay below the maximums they recommend.

I have about 5,000 rounds of once-fired Winchester 9mm brass layin' around in coffee cans. Once I'm up to about 10,000 it will be time to start figgerin' out what to do with it. I don't reload, and am not interested in doing so in future. So is the brass worth more if sold to a scrap dealer, or if I auction it on eBay, or if I park with buckets of it outside an IPSC match, or what? And, for all of these alternatives, what's a fair price? If I sell it to shooters, will it increase the value if I deprime and clean and polish it first (some is a mite muddy, as I have an outdoor range), or do reloaders prefer to do that themselves?

IF you clean and size and deprime it, it's worth more to a relaoder. prices vary, I would have sold brass on the internet for .01 ea plus shipping and it went fast. I would stuff as much as I could in a USPS flat rate priority mail box and offer it by that amount eg: 2000 rounds of .38 brass for 28.60 shipped inthe US. don't even think about outside the US.

Since I haven't started reloading yet, these are only recommended loads from Alliant Powder's Website.
As per their website: These loads are maximum loads and it's highly recommended that you reduce loads by 10% and cautiously work up until you establish a safe and reliable load.

My favorite 9mm load - Minor Power Factor

Zero 147gr JHP
3.0gr TiteGroup
OAL: 1.150
Primers: Winchester Small Pistol
Brass: Speer, Winchester

My XD has eaten nearly 20,000 of these gems and they have been flawless. Recoil is poofy and the gun runs great.

9mm brass has the least value because of the abundance of available brass. That said, .01 each is a good price and most will pay it. As for cleaning and depriming, cleaning would be best, since most will deprime while reloading.

Because of the cost of brass, you may get more for it as scrap.

Here's some of Steven A. Camp's loads that he made mention of in his range report with the XD.

Quote:
Handloads included cast, plated, and jacketed bullets. This was done as some will want to reload for this pistol.

124 gr Hornady XTP
6.0 gr Unique
Winchester SP Primer
Starline Cases
LOA: 1.11"*

124 gr Speer GDHP
6.0 gr Unique
Winchester SP Primer
Starline Cases
LOA: 1.115"*
*(Both of these hit over 1200 ft/sec from Browning Hi Powers.)

124 gr Rainier Plated RN
6.9 gr Blue Dot
Winchester SP Primer
Starline Cases
LOA: 1.15"

122 gr Rucker Cast FP
6.9 gr Blue Dot
Winchester SP Primer
Starline Cases
LOA: 1.075"

The handloads using Blue Dot average about 1140 ft/sec from Browning Hi Powers and have proven reasonably accurate, something frequently not so easy to find in 9mm pistols.

I want to load some cream-puff 38spl rounds for practice for my wife to get her to shoot something bigger than 25auto.

I bought 125gr jacketed for this.

Does anyone have a good load?

I also bought 154gr jacketed for me to load 357mag for practice.

I also want to load the 38spl into 357 brass to keep the flame-cutting in the cylinders to a minimum. I will use different bullet designs to keep them seperate. Do I just use 38spl data and put it in a 357 shell? Obviously I would ignore the OAL for the 38spl.
