My XD has eaten nearly 20,000 of these gems and they have been flawless. Recoil is poofy and the gun runs great.

What PF is that and at what temp?

I have been loading a bunch of 125gr Rainier Flat Point plated over 4.6 grains of N320 (WSP primer, OAL= 1.437) for my wife and she'll run 200 through her J frame per session without issue (noting that replacing the rosewood grips on her LadySmith with a rubber Hogue also helped).

Ignoring the OAL for published load data pretty much invalidates the data. Using 38 Special data for loading anything other than 38 Special cartridges creates a risk that, in my view, is not worth taking.

9mm TMJ reloading question

I have to fire TMJ rounds at my local indoor range. The ammo is quite a bit more expensive new. Can you buy TMJ bullets to reload with? If so is the cost saving worth buying a reload setup and TMJ bullets?

Thanks in advance,
Kritter

Yes, you can buy TMJ bullets to reload with. Not to necessarily make this a question of scruples, however, plated bullets (such as Rainier and Berry's) are certainly less expensive than true TMJ bullets. If the intent is to have the lead in the bullet fully encapsulated, both a fully plated bullet and a true TMJ accomplish this.

Also keep in mind that different bullet manufacturers use different nomenclature, for example Hornady's FMJ/ENC meets the common definition of TMJ, but you will not see it on the package.

Last weekend I shot a match in Memphis. It was about 70 degrees when we chrono'd and it came in at 132PF. It ranges from 130 to 133 depending on the outdoor temp.

Stupid question but why would you buy JHPs for punching paper and matches?

I do see that it is usually only a few dollars more.

Any other 147 recommendations besides Old School's Zeros?

I am looking to start loading 147s at a low charge for faster follow up shots in IDPA.
