Hrm, my only hold on the moly bullets are I heard the **** builds up on the throat and regular gun cleaner won't take it out.

Something about needing MEK to take it off....nasty stuff.

Not sure if that is the case with Precision Bullets. The Blue Wonder Gun Cleaner removed it with no trouble at all.

I have shot hundreds of bullets that have been moly coated through my 223. I have read lots of different information on what the stuff actually does.
This is what David Tubb http://www.davidtubb.com/about_david.html
has to say about moly bullets

http://www.zediker.com/articles/mca.pdf

Now here is what famous barrel maker Wil Schuemann has to say.
http://www.schuemann.com/Content/moly0.htm
http://www.schuemann.com/

Now what does this all mean?

Wil Schuemann is concerned because pistol shooters don't need to change barrels for at least 50,000 rounds. David Tubb changes barrels around 2500-3000 rounds. So does a rifle vs a pistol make a difference? Yes. It makes a difference because the rifle has much more pressure and velocity involved. The heat generated by the rifle changes and causes decomposition of the moly. In short, some of the moly gets burned up in the rifle barrel.

In a pistol the moly can build up at low pressures and start wearing away the barrel. Moly does what the copper or lead of a bullet does. It gets into the lands and grooves of the barrel. the more you put down the tube the more gets in there. the moly bonds with the metal and then people scrub the crap out of their barrels. They sometimes end up using harsh chemicals like MEK or whatever they have laying around to get the stuff out.

Now for the monkey wrench.

http://www.schuemann.com/Content/clean0.htm

Most of this information applies to 416 stainless barrels since they show wear in a very different way than most other types of steel.

Hopefully this enough information to help you make your decision.

Just for the record I have used Precision bullets and like them alot. Just a little expensive to get shipped to Alaska.

Tubb is talking about 50kPSI in a rifle barrel. Granted, the pressure is probably longer in a rifle, no way in hell I'd shoot these in 9 major where you could be talking close to 65-70kPSI.

Still pondering ...

I've used 3.3 of titegroup with zero's through my 5" 1911 9mm and 3.0 titegroup with precision's. I have not chronoed the data, need to get a chrono, but I've had very little build up and a quick nylon brush then patches and all is gone. I'll concure that the Master Blasters will leave a deposit that can be a little hard to get out.

I have close to 5,000 of the precisions 45 200SWC through my GI. No buildup and it will still shoot 1 holers. In my XD I'm pushing 7,000 of .40al 185gr bullets. I run 231 with them and show no signs of buildup. I've tried TG with the mold bullets, but it is just to fast of a powder for the bullet, even lead. 231 is the way to go with these bullets.

Thank you for the excellant post guy's.
I've recently started using precision bullets and really like them so far.
I understand they're coming out with a 240gr. .44mag bullett soon.
I can hardley wait to see how they perform at higher velocities.
