Purchasing ammo online?

Hey all, I've been looking on google trying to find the laws pertaining to Los Angeles County and online ammunition sales and I can't seem to find anything of any subtance. Basically, I've heard from a few friends that purchasing AMMO online from Los Angeles County is illegal--now, with that said, I don't belive any of them have actually tried to order AMMO online, and this information is purely hear-say--so can anyone either confirm or deny this? Will online AMMO distributors sell to Los Angeles County? Is it site specific, or is this a county regulation? Please let me know. The cheapest I can find AMMO around here is like 10$ for 50ct. 9mm reloads at the range, or 11.99 at Big 5 for WWB (i think). Either way, it's expensive and online is a much better bargain. Please let me know what you guys think... Thanks

Not sure if it passed already but before I moved the heck out of SoCal...... There was a law to need ID for handgun ammo hence blocking all online sales to Cali...... Go figure, crazy people in charge over there..... Just wait till Mexico really takes the reigns......

This is true. I do need to show my California State ID to purchase AMMO.. I dind't think anything of it--I would expect them to card for ammo--but I guess that'll make it difficult for online purchases.. I'm going to call the county and see if I can clear this up when I get off work.. How do other states record the purchases of AMMO--or do they not? I would imagine that you'd have to show ID to prove you are who you say you are and so the AMMO can be tracked incase you use it for illegal purposes? How does this work else where? Or is there just no protection for this? Thanks for the replies

Only in Komifornia does anyone care about online ammo purchases. One or two other states do have restrictions but some online ammo dealers verfiy ID at time of purchase. I know Colorado doesn't care. I buy all of my rifle ammo 5.56 & 7.62 online.

Eric- try this link http://www.outdoormarksman.com/buyammo.php
I bought some mauser 8mm ammo & all they wanted was an "adult signiture" when UPS dropped it off. (I'm in LA Co.) but for 9mm Walmart seems the best price.

When purchasing ammo from a STORE in Los Angeles CITY, you must show ID. You can purchase any regular ammo online and have it shipped to you (Natchezss, Ammoman, MidwayUsa, Aimsurplus, Sportsmens' etc.). Most vendors ship to LA.
If you are shooting any kind of significant volume, online is the only way to go if you don't reload. Once in a rare while Turners or Big5 will put something on sale which after shipping/tax considerations is a decent buy. Forget about buying ammo at LA Guns or Retting, their prices are abstract- like the old days when you'd walk into a computer store and see a box of ten floppy discs for $80. Gun World/Target Range and Stevensons will sometimes make decent deals on bulk. Kings and Fowler/Stockade are OK, not great.
Make sure you don't buy anything with steel core or cased bullets (lots of milsurp) if you are shooting at any of the local outdoor ranges as they generally prohibit it. Avoid Blazer non-brass if you are shooting indoors- most ranges resell the cases and prohibit the use of steel or aluminum cased ammo.
Incendiary and tracer ammo is also a big no-go at local ranges.
Surprisingly, the store at AngelesRanges sometimes has decent prices if you are a member. They'll discount bulk as well.
Find a round you like and buy bulk online. That will save you ALOT of $$$.
