I am going for a specific load. I am not interested in competing in any other class except Production. I learned my lesson with cars.
That XD45 does have some appeal though.

Dude, don't buy the XD45, you'll stop shooting your 9mm completely.

Production is fun, however, there is nothing like shooting 20 rounds of ammo without a reload. The pace is fast and it is fun. I too like Production, but I am looking forward to shooting Limited in 2007.

reloading overload
Paul,
The 550 is a very good machine, however as you are learning you can really go thru some ammo shooting matches and practicing. I would consider investing in the 650 for a few reasons. First in the five station tool head. You can install a powder check unit and that will make sure your not producing a squib or over charged round (very important note). Not as big of a deal now but the case feeder is a must on either machine. Auto indexing, is huge due to the fact you want to go shoot not stand in your reloading room cranking out rounds. And lastly if you dont like it you can alway sell it for what you have in it, thats what I did with my square deal b and thats why we buy Dillon stuff, ask your IPSC shooting buddies what they have they will tell you go blue.
Good luck

I've commited to a 550. I suppose if I outgrow it I can sell it and get a 650?
I better not buy an XD45 then.
OS, next you will be shooting Open. I have such a long way to go that I doubt I will ever be "that" good. I'm just interested in improving my ability and have a good time.

Don't over look the "red" equipment LEE equipment. You won't find better for the money. Just look into the "RED" and read a little about Richard Lee.Or just spend your money because someone said; go BLUE. Sure Dillon is good, not a bad choice, but read a little you'll see what i'm talking about.

+1 on the 650 for USPSA shooting. If you ever plan to add the case feeder, the total cost is about $60 more IIRC. The peace of mind that comes with the powder check is worth the price difference alone IMHO.

I did some looking, couldn't afford a Dillon, so I bought a Lee Loadmaster, Ive been very happy with it for the several hundred rounds of .40 i've put together with it. My best time so far is 115 rds in 45 min, but i'm still kinda noob and anal about checking everything about every 10-15 rds. If anybody asks, I'll tell 'em Lee.
