Wolfe ammo

Shot three boxes of steel cased Wolfe 45acp through my XD45 yesterday. Had multiple FTL in every magazine! Apparently the XD doesn't like steel cased ammo. Plus the Wolfe felt weak. That probably had something to do with the FTL's as well. I switched to Federal brass and NO problems. Immediate improvement and higher felt recoil.

Anyone else had problems with steel cased Wolfe ammo?

Some people have no problem with Wolf, others hate it more than life itself. You'll hear stories of dirty powder, dirty cases, broken extractors, etc. Cleaning your gun and replacing minor high-wear components is a good idea anyway. The money you save on ammo will buy you all the CLP, Rem oil, and worn extractors you'll ever need.

I love it, runs flawlessly in my XD and my ARs, and is the cheapest (non-surplus, non-reloaded) high quality ammo out there.

BTW, try this next time: http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/search.php there are dozens of discussions of Wolf Ammo.

My father in law has the same problem w/ the Wolfe in his Eclipse Target II right out of the box. The guy at the range said Wolfe ammo is coated in <cant remember the name of it> and that when heating up, it basically coats your barrel w/ a sticky glue like stuff - no bueno for the gun. I'd stay away from Wolfe myself...

I use WOLF shotshells in my 12ga and I can say they are dirty as all getout. I almost need a facemask to shoot that stuff.

But it works, and it works fairly well. It's always gone "boom" when I pull the trigger. As far as grouping consistency, well.... I can't comment on their pistol rounds, but their buckshot likes to spread out quite a bit.

Some of them have a lacquer coating on the casings that can melt off under extreme heat and gum up your chamber. My understanding is that WOLF has discontinued the use of lacquer, at least from what I've read online.

Some steel cased small arms ammo was produced in the US during WWII, however, use over the remaining portion of the century was rare.
