RCBS 1010 Scale

I picked up a RCBS 10-10 scale at a garage sale yesterday for $10.00. I didn't notice at the time that the powder tray and hanger (whatever you call them) wasn't in the scale.

Seeing as it's made by Ohaus and I have the basic Ohaus beam scale that comes with the Dillon 550B, I tried using that tray & hanger. The problem is that you cannot zero the scale.

My question is: Is the hanger weighted specifically for the 1010, or are they interchangable and there's something wrong with the scale itself?

I noticed that these scales are going for over $100 on eBay and would love to think I scored a bargain with this scale. I'll try and contact Ohaus during the week if no help is available here. Thanky kindly Sirs.

Try going to the RCBS website and see if you can get the parts you need. http://www.rcbs.com/resources/#parts_book

Nothing there, but maybe a phone call will yield better results. Here's a link to a forum that talks about "tuning" the scale.

RCBS 1010 tuning? - Long Range Hunting Online Magazine

I think that might be the answer. I tried using some .22 lead pellets to get it closer to an adjustable balance, but it was either too much or too little weight.

Update

That link was the trick. I used some 7/8oz shot from a shotgun shell and dialed it in. I tested a charge I had on my 550B and it was right on. Hope this helps someone else with similar troubles zeroing a beam scale.

I see a graduated scale and silver barrel on the tray end. I'll bet good money that's your zero/tare weight adjustment. It looks all the way to the end. Try turning it closer to the balance point.

Nope. That's the 0-10 grain and 1/10th grain adjustment. The zero adjustment knob is the vertical knurled cylinder on the left under the RCBS logo. It is attached via a screw to the third leg at the left of the scale and allows zeroing of the scale by raising/lowering the left leg. It also serves as the holder for the additional rider weight for weighing in excess of 500gr.

Thank you. I stand corrected. My only balance beam scale experience is with quality triple- beam scales.
