Welcome to the forum from Texas! The reason why some shooters recommend that you stay away from aluminum and steel cased ammo is because they are not meant to be reloaded. As gun control makes it harder and harder to shoot anything, a good many of you guys will become reloaders out of necessity. It's never too soon to start saving your brass.

Tula is cleaner than CCI aluminum Blazers but my XDm guns shoot everything and anything without skipping a beat. Shoot what you can find right now.

Thanks,
The only good deals on bulk 9mm i found have been steel or aluminum...
Do most ranges not let you shoot alum or steel because of mixing the cases?

There is nothing wrong with Aluminum or Steel cased ammunition. The benefits of using a brass cased cartridge is the reloadability of them. Steel doesn't expand too well so it doesn't typically seal the chamber very well (hence the dirty comments), and aluminum is just straight not reloaded very well. nothing functionally wrong with either one. with either one, you don't have to pick it up if you're a reloader. just leave it in the tall grass and nature will do the rest.
or i guess you could pick it up anyway and scrap it when you turn in your beer cans... there's a thought.
yeah, ranges can get kinda picky about the cases you leave behind because they generally re-sell it, or use it for reloading the range ammo people can buy. I can understand them wanting brass only, but they're just being lazy if you ask me.

"Gun-Free Zones" are shooting ranges for the criminally insane.

Ive been using Speer "lawman" in my Ruger 9mm w/o issue. It has been my experience with ammo that in most cases if it is the proper caliber for the firearm and has not been wet etc... Most guns will fire what is put in um w/o any problems...
Have used Remington UMC Winchester etc all about the same gun goes bang and a hole apperas in the target..

One reason is its not re-loadable!
Most of that ammo will function fine, with the ammo situation most people are happy to get any!
