Why is there no 22lr?

This is a discussion on Why is there no 22lr? within the The Ammo Can forums, part of the Armory Talk category; I understand people buying up the 5.56 or .223. But 22lr is completely wiped out everywhere. What am I missing?...

IMO People still want to "shoot" and stay proficient, but not burn up their "good" ammo. .22lr is good target/practice ammo.

I was woundering the same damn thing! I wanted to take the 10/22 out last week and when I seen the shelves it went right back in the safe, not shooting any 22 until I see the shelves back to normal

I keep about 2,000 cheap target rounds on hand. Mostly the bulk boxes or if I find American Eagle for between 2 and 3 dollars for the 50rd box. About 150 - 300 stingers and some other assorted. So I have plenty. But I looked in three states over Christmas, it's gone every where. I found some online but I can't bring myself to pay $17 shipping for it.

It's Christmas. People buy ammo as gifts for people.

This is the most logical answer. I was a little bummed last time I went to walmart and there was no 22 ammo

That is exactly what is happening. Its Christmas.

Every year during this time of the year 22 are gone.

Because grandpas and dads buy 22 rifles for their grandkids and kids.

Didn't even think about all the Christmas presents. I haven't looked for ammo for a couple weeks, but reading this it makes me glad I have over 5,000 rounds of .22 saved up
