Best snap caps?

I guess this belongs in the ammo sub-forum and I tried a search and saw some discussions about snap caps but it didn't really answer my question.

Is there a recognized leader in snap caps? I read a lot of reviews on different sites like Midway USA and it seems like one maker in say 45ACP is 5 stars while the same brand is only 2 stars in say 9mm.

I'm looking to pick up snap caps for almost every caliber I own and while I don't mind trying different companies in each caliber and reporting back it would definitely save me some time and money to hear what you guys use.

Also polymer vs. metal. Sounds like the polymer falls apart quickly but doesn't leave metal and paint shavings in your action like the metal ones.

Thoughts?

Buy the ones that go "snap" instead of "BOOM"

I use AZoom snap caps. They're pretty good, but have gotten chewed up something fierce. Better the snap cap wears than the gun, I suppose. The rubber primer is a good touch. I've never seen any paint flecks in the action, but I'm sure they're there - that said, snap cap remnants can't be any worse than actual live fire remnants.

Pachmayr, they have a spring loaded primer..

I've run the 9mm Pachmayr Snap Caps, in a Beretta 92, Glock 17/19/26, Sig P226/P229/P239, XD 9 service/9sc, and my 9mm 1911s with no problems.

I have the Azoom in .40 S&W. They are anodized, solid machined aluminum, with the polymer insert for the primer. My current set is black, but I would have preferred the red set that I had before. I don't want any snap cap that could in any way be confused for live ammo. Some of the darker case ammo, to me anyway, looks too much like these. They were all I could find locally at the time though.

My Azoom set for a .22LR pistol are dark blue, and if you "snap" then it leaves the divot in the rim. These I am thinking will have a much shorter life span because of this.

On my package, IIRC AZoom is owned by Pachymar.

Another vote for Azooms. Use them in 9 and 45 and no real complaints. They will get a little chewed up but that hasnt stopped them.

I have aZooms in 9 (used a good bit) 30-30 and 38 (they just stay in the cylinder - you can dry fire forever and every! Unlike an auto where you have to rack the action, chase the buggers before the cat gets them, then reload the mag.) and got some in 22 but have yet to open them.

I researched and azooms had the best reviews.

Cheap 22lr alternative

I can't take credit for this. I saw this on one of the forums (don't remember which one), but for 22lr "snap caps" I use those little plastic yellow wall anchors. The box I use is labeled #4-6 X 7/8". They only cost $3.79 for a package of 100 at home depot. They feed and eject well in both my buckmark and ruger 22/45. They're cheap so when they go flying across the room from ejecting, I don't care if I can't find it right away. If you reuse them a lot I've noticed that eventually the rim tears away from the anchor part. The anchor part will fall out of the barrel though. It's a much smaller diameter than the actual 22lr. For all larger calibers I use Azoom.
