the BEST .40 ammo

disclaimer: this should probably be in the politics section, but i cant post there. If a mod wants to move it and give me access, feel free.

So I went out and emptied 250 rounds of fmj, along with my 2 oldest boxes of pdx1. my xdm with the tungsten guide rod loves the stuff. it shoots so smooth its ridiculous.

so anyway, i get home and realize that i dont have as much pdx1 left as i thought. So of course, always wanting the next best thing I go to google to see if there is any "new greatness" out there in ammo. Im thinking about the corbon rounds but thats beside the point.

Now I want to make it clear, this isnt a rant against police officers, and Im not really complaining about the quality of ammo that I can buy. its great stuff and will do the job. But can someon please explain to me why law enforcement can buy ammo that i can? Do they "deserve" to be more safe than I do? Do they deserve to have better equipment? Well, maybe I want the best equipment and Im willing to pay for it... so why cant I buy it? My familiy deserves to be protected by the best round possible, just like that police officer does. I put this right in the same category of cops writing tickets for window tinting while having the darkest windows in town. its pretty ridiculous. And again, its not so much the quality of the ammo...its the point. same thing holds true for machine guns. Mortars, ok i can understand that. lol.

I dont know, Im probably the only one who thinks this way. I just dont think its right. (btw, i guess im aiming this at winchester.. so no offense to any police officers)

Great point. And an answer IMHO is liability. Within a/your company you have SOP's or Standard Operating Proceedures. In order to provide some of the benefits, in my opinion, there has to be an approved projectile to use. I may be completely wrong, but this is what first came to mind...Liability. In this, you have rounds that have passed FBI Standards and are "Acceptable" for use in firearms.

As a private citizen, we are free to buy whatever it is that we want to use, there really is no mandate we have to follow because we are individuals not necessarily responsible for the actions of your neighbor and such. I agree with you that I want the best round to protect my family that I can get, but on the contrary, I want the best round that my XD likes to fire consistently and true. So, there's a balance.

I would love to have a mortar too btw, but yea...I'd probably get into trouble trying to see how far I can shoot the cat or something that belongs to my wife or something there of...

"walks away thinking...mortar...hhmmm..." <-- LOL J/k

Corbon all copper ammo is not "new greatness". It's been around for a while. Corbon Powerball is crap. All copper Corbon is not any better than PDX or Gold Dot and cost much more. Anything other than good quality ammo is gimmick mall ninja crap, extreme shock, RCDB, Glaser all crap.

First off--there is no "best". If there was, there would only be one kind of ammo--and we'd all be using it.

Second--with the exception of some rounds for the FN 5.7, I am not aware of any ammo that only cops can have that we can't buy...certainly none in .40 come to mind.

And third--PDX-1 is a good round. It is, in fact, the same round being used by the FBI (just under a different name) and several other agencies. I must agree with Agalindo in saying that most of the other "neat-o, newest and bestest" ammo out there is just pure marketing on gimmick rounds that won't outperform the usual recommendations--HST, Gold Dot, Ranger-T (PDX-1).

So, if your pistol likes the PDX-1, find someplace where you can buy a bunch for a decent price, stock up and stop worrying about the "latest and greatest"...because it usually ain't.

you cant buy ranger t series from winchester. its sale restricted to police. and if its restricted to police, then it must be a better round. the t series is not the same as the pdx1 you buy off the shelf.

Bullshit you can't buy it.

50rd - 40 caliber Ranger SXT T-Series 180 gr RA40T | SGAmmo.com

And PDX-1 is the same as Ranger Bonded--the same round used by the FBI.

well you "can" buy it, thats not the point. of course you can get your hands on anything if you really want. my point is what are these companies mindset. do they honestly believe that law enforcement deserves the "better" rounds. as the 2nd poster said, probably liability, but still. if i make quality ammo, i want everyone to have it.

Maybe that's just a marketing ploy..

It's "limited to police only" (wink, wink)--that must make it better!

Looks like you fell for it hook, line and sinker...
