Mouse piss...will it ruin brass?

I have a bowl I put bad loads into that i'll take apart once i get 10 or so accumulated.

A mouse is running around my basement and peed in the bowl - the brass and many of the hullets (montana gold dot JHP) have bright greenish spots where the piss was.

I assume the brass is toast now? And the bullets?

I have a lid on the bowl now and am teaching my two 9 week old kittens that mice are what's for dinner.

Mouse piss? Really? That's a new one on me! It is kind of acidic though, but I don't think it will actually "eat" the brass. Try tumbling the loaded rounds after wiping them off of course. If you have a vibrating tumbler, that should remove the offending "green spots" on the brass and bullets without hurting either. Tumbling loaded rounds has been tested by some people and found not to affect the powder or primers. I would suggest an hour or so and then see what they look like.

As an aside... most kittens not taught to do so by their mothers will not attack the mouse. They might... but most would rather be friends. If they do, they might present you with a "present" in your bed sometime as they are prone to drag the mouse cadaver to some comfortable spot and leave it there.

Good luck!

Too funny! I think you'll be fine if you clean it with something to neutralize the ammonia in the urine. Tumble it and then see where you're at.

As for the kittens...Momma cat needs to teach the little ones to be mousers.

Interesting, our cat was removed from the mother at a very young age, but took to it naturally.

Ammonia WILL DEFINITELY corrode brass. I don't know how much ammonia is in mouse piss, if any at all, but it's something to keep in mind.

Wash them and tumble. Should be fine, unless they sat in a LOT of piss for a long time.
