Discarding failure-to-fire ammo?

I shoot factory ammo and have never had a ftf until today. I am wondering if there is any special details to disposing of ftf ammo? I am mostly iterested in safety issues? Thanks.

Now I am not sure if this is standard operating procedure here... but I have had a few factory rounds not fire as well... They can be disposed of at my local range, I am not sure what they do with them. If they use the Kinetic bullet puller and so on... However, before I am too concerned, I might chamber the round in another firearm and see if it will fire out of that handgun. Some of my handguns strike just a little bit differently, The baby eagle usually puts the smack on them if they don't fire the first time. Rarely does it happen.

Be safe, make sure you know where your gun is pointing, etc.

I drop old/dud ammon in a coffee can solution of old motor oil and acetone and let it set for 90 days then I throw it in the garbage.

This won't really do it. A loaded round is pretty water proof, even oil isn't a sure thing. I would pul them down or drop them off at the local range. Some PDs or Fire stations take unfired ammo, but I don't want to be attached to that. Just don't toss them in the trash, bad things can happen.

I've started laying down tarps where I shoot for fast clean up. I don't always have the poured cement or hard pack to pick them up from. Usually in longer grass that doesn't get mowed as often, hunting land mostly.

lots of times shooting .22, which is a lot of .22, well they have a tendency to sometimes fall on the ground. Or if my mag jams one up in the rifle, I rack the action and eject an unfired round. Best to not leave those laying around either. Ill get a handful of them by the end of the day, (seems like a lot, but compared to the shooting not bad)

Usually put them in a coffee can full of sand and take them to my local range for disposal.

This is my method of dealing with loaded cartridges I find at the range since I've never had any FTFs left over. I'll keep trying to fire any FTF rounds by placing them back into the gun until I obtain success.

This is not meant to be a recommendation for anyone to follow. Most people just drop their FTFs off at the range counter on their way out and they'll handle them for you.

I take the found, loaded cartridges home and, while wearing eye and ear protection, use a kinetic bullet puller to unload them. Next, I de-prime the case with my press. I take the live primer and grip it in the jaws of a pair of pliers and smack it on the concrete floor of my garage to make the primer fire. I then take the powder and place it on a brick and light it with a butane "match". Sometimes I'll store any unwanted powder inside a container until I have enough to burn it up all at once. I'll then re-load the case and pulled bullet into a cartridge with fresh powder and a primer for the next time I visit the range.

My S&W Sigma had a FTF problem until I had S&W repair it for me. All those cartridges were placed back into the gun over and over until they eventually fired.

I had several failure to fires in my 1911 when the firing pin was damaged. I just threw the rounds in the trash at the range.
