I dont work for them, dont do anything for them. I have bought ammo and parts from them several times and never had a bad experience yet. The only gripe I have is that they seem to send me a catalog from either CtD or a partner store about once a month.

I just got back from my local Walmart to pick up some ammo and spoke about this with the Manager of the Hunting Dept. He about laughed at me when asked about Walmart not carrying guns or ammo any longer. He said, "Not that I know about". He did say that they recently made a change in policy that does not allow ammo to be returned, but as far as not carrying it any longer he indicated that there is no sign of that.

That all depends on your location I guess. Two local walmarts just pulled it (north colorado) but my local walmart still caries and the sporting goods guy says its not going anywhere anytime soon, they have several orders in for new shipments and according to him, they sell thousands of rounds a week to locals.

I do agree with you on buying ammo online, but I prefer sportsmansguide.com, I get 500 rounds of Wolf for $69 whereas moreexpensivethandirt wants $99 for 450 rounds. Having compared the ammo prices, sportsmansguide is cheaper for pretty much all of their ammo. I'll have to get into reloading soon and put all that brass i've been saving to good use.

for those of you who purchase from those 2 online stores, how much does shipping usually cost you for 500 rounds or whatever you purchase?

For those disbelivers in my original post, I followed up
and went to see the sporting goods manager today. She
showed me a Wally World memo to all sporting goods
managers, what I reported above, I saw in writing.
Tryed all my charm to get a copy, but no go on that
as it was an 'internal' memo.

So, those of you who have gone to their local Wally
Worlds, talked to the sporting goods managers and
they say "never heard of such", then they must be in
the 80% that is going down the tubes on the sale of
ammo and rifles.

jednp,
I have never ordered from those 2 sites and should probably not be responding, since you asked specifically about Cheaper Than Dirt and Sportsmans Guide. I order from Natchez Shooters Supply. I just received 10,000 rnds. of CCI Blazer .45 ACP ammo. That was 10 cases @ 42# per 1,000 rnds. Shipping was $147.47 or about $15.00 per 1,000. That was shipping from Chatanooga, Tenn. to Central Texas. I don't know it to be fact, but I have been told that if I had ordered brass cased ammo, it would have weighed 30% more and would have cost, therefore, 30% more in shipping. Sorry to give information you didn't ask for, but I thought it might help with the comparison.

The Walmart in my town has scaled way back in "bullet" inventory. Since one of the brands that I bought was missing, I asked about it. The answer was "I know it was here, but I don't see a space for it." I have also seen this happen in other departments in the same store.
Is this the price we pay for profit?
