Lee Precision 9mm Luger Pro 1000 Progressive Press Auto Reloading Kit

6-0809986 - Lee Precision 9mm Luger Pro 1000 Progressive Press Auto Reloading Kit Easy to Use Warranty

I'm looking at getting into reloading on the cheap and when I found this lee kit that includes a progressive press + everything eneded (minus powder/bullets/brass/primers) to reload for $167+shipping it looks too good to be true.

Does anyone have any opinions on this setup? I'll be looking to load at least a couple thousand rounds a month, mostly 9mm right now but may be moving to .40 S&W as well.

Thanks guys!

Just starting out you would probably be better served on a turret such as this one for just a bit more money.

https://kempfgunshop.com//index.php?...mart&Itemid=41

It will allow you to learn as single stage and not require the tinkering that comes with owning the Pro 1000. There are plenty of people who do well with that press but for a progressive it requires more than a reasonable amount of (choose your phrase) upkeep, tinkering, adjustment. The Lee turret is a solid press and will allow you to get a bit more production for less $$$ outlay.

The first thing though is to read the ABC's of reloading and get a manual. I'd recommend either Lyman's 49 or Lee's Modern Reloading 2nd edition.

I have the 9mm pro 1000 and I have no problems doing 200 rounds an hour. I've had it for several years. No it's not a piece of crap. For the price it does the job. I paid 119.00 for my 9mm pro 1000 kit.

I shoot 1-2K rounds a month, if not more sometimes, so I'm looking for something that I can pump out some quantity on but also be fairly economic to get into. I've got all the brass I could ever need so I really just need the press/dies, powder, and bullets.

I've done a little bit of reloading with my dad on a single stage press but it was quite a long time ago and I didn't do the process from start to finish, but I'm not a 100% complete noobie to it either.

Is there anything else around the $200 mark that would be a decent setup that I could work with?

The $200 mark is going to keep you in a turret price range or the Pro1000. Lee makes a great press for the cost hands down. They aren't crap. plenty of people have loaded on them for decades. I load on a Hornady LNL AP so I don't have dog in this fight, but I wouldn't hesitate to pick up the Lee turret. The Pro is a capable press but it does come with quirks and some upkeep. You don't have to spend a ton of money to get into reloading and make quality rounds.

I don't necessarily mind a single stage press but my horizontal work space is fairly limited as the only place I have a stable mounting platform is in my storage shed out back so all my reloading will be done standing up in a relatively small storage shed. I figured a turret/progressive press would maximize my horizontal workspace. I am a tinkerer and do not mind a little bit of upkeep if it will still pump out quality rounds at an expedited pace.

you can get a loadmaster for not much more than the 1000 and its' a better unit.
Presses - Lee Load Master - Lee Load Master Pistol Calibers - Lee Reloading Supplies | Reloading Equipment Lee Precision | Discount Reloading Supplies by Lee | Titan Reloading is where I got mine - great people to deal with.
YOu'll also need a scale to check the powder throw during setup, the $23 lee one is fine.
get the adjustable charge bar Search - LEE ADJUSTABLE CHARGE BAR - Lee Reloading Supplies | Reloading Equipment Lee Precision | Discount Reloading Supplies by Lee | Titan Reloading as you can adj powder drop by .1 gr (which you need to do with pistols)

Be attentive when loading primers and the press is not a problem at all. 300 rounds an hour is very realistic in my experience. The more I use it the faster I get. I've got about 1200 rounds through mine so far.

Everyone says dillon is the best but you'll spend 2-3X as much up front. the 550 is "the" one but the 650 can do pistol calibers only like the lee 1000. (the loadmaster can do anything as can the dillon 550).

If you really plan to load thousands of rounds a month you may want to consider a dillon, perhaps their 1050 (be sure you got the bux though)

I have a loadmaster and I like my pro 1000 better than the load master. I use the loadmaster for large rifle cases. I don't like the way it primes on the down stroke as your sizing the case. You can't feel the primer seat.

The Dillon xl650 does rifle calibers as well, maybe you are thinking of the square deal B? The 550 is a manual indexing where the 650 is auto indexing. The 1050 is for serious amounts of ammo.
