How to remove live primer from brass?

What method do you use if you needed to remove a live primer, say...after you pulled a bullet and wanted to remove the unfired primer as well.
Firing the gun with the round in it? Because I know this could cause the slide to jam up.
OR
Slowly decapping with your press, while wearing eye and ear protection of course. Also, would you clean your brass after doing it this way if you did?

Did a quick search and didn't find anything to this matter.

Spray some WD40 down into the case and let it sit for a while. The WD40 will render the primer inert and you can then decap as normal.

Ok that makes sense why they mentioned soaking in WD40 in an article I read. So I'll stick the dozen or so I need to decap in some WD40 ad let it sit overnight, then I should be fine?

Probably doesn't even need to be overnight, but if time isn't an issue thats what I would do. Doesn't need alot, just enough to soak into the primer. Also remember you will need to clean it out after so that the next primer doesn't get any on it.

Easier to just throw the case away if you're using WD40 (which doesn;t always work...)

And I'd just chamber it, no magazine, point in a safe direction, and pull the trigger.

It'll just be a kinda loud pop.

I have de-primed several hundred, using my normal resizing methods, as if it was a fired primer, and have never had one go bang. I can't imagine that it would have any drastic results any way, but I bet it would make me jump. I just take it a little easy when I pull the lever. I did not have a powder measure in operation at the time, as a safety precaution

I read an article and the author used this method and said as long as he does it slow and smoothly he's never had one detonate.
Good deal. TY

Same here. As long as there isn't powder close by you can deprime live rounds without a problem. I even re-use the primer if I am loading ammo that requires that size. Think of it like this, the worst case senerial, the primer egnites. It shoots the flame up into the sizing die harmlessly. If it does not ignite, which will be nearly 100% of the time if you don't slam the primmer out, the primer is undamaged and can be reused if you are loading that size or mark it with the correct size, like small pistol, reg primmer. I have never had a failure with this system.

Didclaimer: If you have loose powder within 10 feet, move the powder or move your press. Accidents can be avoided by using a little common sense.
